3·2 months agoIf you buy a mainland China phone the app store will be local, for example Oppo store, and Play will be only available as a workaround. I think mainland China phones will be unaffected by Google’s sideloading restriction.
What I’m arguing for? Logical consistency. Moral consistency. If the reason to sanction DPRK is that they acquired nuclear weapons without the consent of the current nuclear powers, then all states which do the same should be sanctioned. If the reason to sanction DPRK is because they might wreak havoc with massive weapons, then countries that are already wreaking havoc with massive weapons should be sanctioned. Your argument is that Israel and the US should not suffer the consequences of sanctions because they aren’t sanctioned. My argument is that there is not logical or moral consistency in sanctions.
And no, I don’t accept that this is an argument for nuclear weapon proliferation. Those countries that developed nuclear weapons pulled the gate shut behind them, forbidding any other countries from getting them. We can see the hypocrisy in that. But then when a US ally like Israel, or a strategic partner like Pakistan acquires nuclear weapons it is ignored. Only DPRK or Iran could possibly be dangerous because… well because they aren’t cooperating with the US.
Oh, so the UN decided that DPRK nationals aren’t allowed to work abroad. That seems fair. Like, if Israelis worked abroad, sent money home, and then that money was used for genocide. Or if US citizens worked abroad, sent tax money home, and that tax was used for genocide. Kinda like that. Or any country that maintains a nuclear arsenal, that isn’t part of the the nuclear non proliferation treaty. Like Israel. Or Pakistan.
I think what you are showing is that far right parties often incorporate one or two left-wing policies in order to gain popularity. Cherry-picking those and putting them together does not create a realistic profile of right wing opinions.
Fired for passing failing students. At this point in North America teachers have to pass failing students! I’m not US American so I am not sure if “No Child Left Behind” means no failing, though I remember it was a Bush jr policy that lowered standards.

Yes, that’s pretty much what I meant. In theory, the best brands would rise to the top under capitalism. So the US brands have failed without state intervention.
Which model of redmi did you have? I currently use the Redmi Note 12. It’s… okay. I had a previous Xiaomi (can’t remember which model) that I thought was an excellent price for high quality.
Definitely Chinese phones have better specs for their prices, as compared to US/Korean brands. Still, I’m looking for that special deal of a mid-tier-priced phone with flagship specs. Considering getting the Oneplus 13.

Still using my two year old Xiaomi Redmi Note 12. It was super cheap, relatively. Like about 12 times cheaper than the Huawei tri-fold.
1·1 year agoDo you mean investors are trying to manipulate stocks by planting stories? Yeah, I think so. But intelligence agencies have whole training programs on how to manipulate narratives, and a very long track record of doing so.

Corporatism leads to imperialism by the need to seek profits in new markets. Wherever we see lots of defense of imperialism, there is corporate backing behind it. That’s why I think lemmy.world is astroturfed. There’s a strong anti-communist and pro “free market” capitalist tendency on there. Posts that attack the Global South as the world’s villains. On the other hand, there are also many people on lemmy.world that speak out against imperialism and capitalistic exploitation. But the recurrent waves of reactionary politics on lemmy.world indicate to me the presence of astroturfing trolls. This makes sense even on a relatively small platform like Lemmy because it threatens to become a nucleus for organizing against capitalism.

The strange thing here is that Marty McFly is using the slang “heavy” and Doc Brown doesn’t understand it. Yet the use of heavy to mean “profound, serious” started in Jazz in 1937. So Doc would have grown up with the word, and by the 80’s I wonder if it was really all that popular anymore. McFly is using 50’s slang in the '50s but the guy from the '50s doesn’t get the slang. Maybe because he’s not hip.

Communist cute kitten, I do not advise you get a Huawei phone with HarmonyOS unless you are actually fluent in Chinese, based in China, and not interested in apps outside China. Given your name, 可爱小猫, you might be fluent. But given your use of Lemmy, I doubt you are a mainland local.
HarmonyOS latest update is a fully localized OS that uses a localized app store and can only run a few non-Chinese apps in a virtual machine, with restricted memory access. If that appeals to you, go for it.
Edit: Huawei is a special case. It has been heavily sanctioned and has cut ties to the Android ecosystem. Oppo / Oneplus phones are available in China variant, and they run Android. They are pretty much the same as a local phone, as long as your cell provider doesn’t IMEI blacklist you. Mine runs on Canadian wireless providers when I’m in Canada.
