That’s not how encryption works. But you’re not wrong about it being owned by meta being a problem. There’s more info in a message than just the contents.

Both are quite secure but neither of them stop an idiot on one end or the other from sharing the contents with the public.

Technology@lemmy.world•After police used Flock cameras to accuse a Denver woman of theft, she had to prove her own innocenceEnglish
1·11 days ago“what about repeat violent offenders.”
This is conservative paranoia propaganda at work. People who are violent offenders become repeat violent offenders because of the system that we have in place not in spite of it. And the percentage of violent offenders in our prison system is severely out of proportion to those of the nonviolent variety who make up the bulk of our inmate population.

30·12 days agoYeah, that’s something that absolutely has to change. I don’t care if “career criminals get out of charges all the time”. A false charge should not follow you for the rest of your life.
Then again, I also believe that if you serve your time in prison and are released, you should not have a publicly searchable record that can be used to deny you opportunities. So take my opinion as you will

6·14 days agoIt does quite alright in python
That’s cause python is the most forgiving language you could write in. You could drop entire pages of garbage into a script and it would figure out a way to run properly.

Technology@lemmy.world•Your Kindle Can Finally Be Jailbroken Again. [22:00]English
3·15 days agoIs it possible to import Kindle books to this device?
I ask because my Kindle library is fairly extensive and giving it up would be uncomfortable to say the least.

Exactly, not clownish at all.
Shouldn’t the images be in reverse order?

Technology@lemmy.world•Hackers can steal 2FA codes and private messages from Android phonesEnglish
1·28 days agoWhat “trusted” platform? Google play store? Their rules are lax as all fuck. And if you download an app from a reputable company and it has malware in it you have the Better Business Bureau to turn to. Otherwise buyer beware, scammers exist.

Technology@lemmy.world•Hackers can steal 2FA codes and private messages from Android phonesEnglish
73·28 days agoThe difference isn’t actually in the operating system. iOS is just as vulnerable to such things. The difference is in how the app store is run. Apple locks down there app store so that it’s much more difficult to get malicious apps added. Google is extremely less thorough. Which is one of the reason many of us choose Android. When you choose more freedom the price is more vigilance is necessary to secure yourself and your phone.

Technology@lemmy.world•Hackers can steal 2FA codes and private messages from Android phonesEnglish
57·28 days agoYes that’s why you verify the safety and security of the apps you’re installing on your phone and don’t just go, “ooo, this looks cool, let’s download it and try it out”. This is especially true if you are installing FOSS apps.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Microsoft is killing another workaround to set up Windows 11 without a Microsoft account
1·1 month agoSo, I’m finally able to tackle this. Do i need pavucontrol? I’m trying to avoid installing any pulseaudio components.

You should look up where the word robot came from originally.
So long as there are humans who value power and control and can propagandize the populace to support them, a world where all people can live comfortably and happily as equals will never exist.
