They’d definitely coalition with AfD if that would be the only measure to get into power again and working into the hands of fossil fuel and alcohol lobbyists again.

Everything that’s going bad in this country is not the fault of their 16 years of corrupt reign but of the Greens who are merely in power for 3 years, who made record low GHGs, record high renewables and the breaking up with Putins gas in germany possible (Habeck for chancelor).

I had ONE hick-up with Nvidia drivers on arch in about 6 years. I needed to downgrade them initially when Valve released the new Steam UI. That’s been fixed pretty fast. When I’m thinking back it was the only problem I had with arch upgrades in its entirety apart from one that was completely on me: installing KWinFT which completely messed up some system libraries (but was repairable). Arch was nothing but rock solid stable for me.

Norway has just started a deep sea excavation for cobalt and copper which as I understand (I’m clueless) can be omitted from sodium-ion batteries. The excavation is roughly of the size of equador and will take place in an area that may contain previously unknown lifeforms and critically endangered eco-system.

A paragraph of an article seems to show their non-chalance regarding the ecosystem impacts and unknown side-effects:

These are the guys whose grid runs on 99% hydropower but they keep drilling for fossile fuels and now rare earths to export them and in addition are still hunting wales.

So to summarise: I’m very happy that there seems to be an eco friendly battery where its main component is the overambundantly availabe sodium. And the short wikipedia entry seems to reflect, that it’s a more simple tech.

It is day and night. Svelte is nearly vanilla JS/TS. No quirks and surprising side-effects like in React. No shadow DOM. With the new rune system in the next version it will even be better. For me it had the best DX of all frameworks I tried.

I suppose OP is frustrated because the business world hasn’t catched up and most of them still only search for React devs, which is in my opinion very stupid, because React can be so frustrating for devs. The reddit sub for svelte has ever so often posts by them praising the sanity of Svelte.

But it would be a valid point by OP if that is their reason when their income depends on it. We can only hope Svelte catches up in that regard.

I’m have done both, Spring Boot and Laravel on BE and Vue, Svelte and React on FE.

Don’t believe the FUD. Vue and Svelte are fun if you have a moderate understanding of HTML, JS/TS and CSS in your sleeve and those reactive frameworks are indefinitely better than vanilla JS or jQuery. React is another beast and I really didn’t like working with it.

Both Vue and Svelte have nice setup tools for NPM/PNMP (I’d recommend the latter) that create template applications in a few minutes which immediately run inside a local dev-server. Change some code and changes are immediately reflected inside the browser. It’s really a nice DX. And both frameworks have very nice ecosystems and GUI frameworks, e.g. VueUse or shadcn-svelte.

6 years on a Ryzen 1600 with an Asus Mobo now. Intel before. Best buy I ever made in my PC-history, apart from my curved WQHD Monitor. Not playing very much but games like CS2, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Far Cry 5, Yakuza 0, Ghostrunner, Witcher 3 run very well on moderately high settings (Most of them on Linux). If I’d invest in a good AMD graphics-card, I’m convinced I could play most modern games on high settings.

Congrats for going the AMD route. You will be so blown away by your 12-core monster.

My sample size is 1. And it sits under my desk since 2018 along with a “be quiet!” PSU inside a Fractal R6 and doesn’t give any indications of giving up soon. Only issue I had in all that time was that I couldn’t OC the RAM which I gave up on since the rig was fast enough for anything I wanna do.

OTOH a friend of mine was complaining about his Asus notebook a lot recently. The keyboard illumination wouldn’t work anymore from one day to the next (he blamed a windows update), a speaker was snarring and the fans were on constantly.

At least FFB for my basic saitek gamepad works out of the box in proton games and even in some emulators like dolphin. Haven’t had steering wheels or pedals but always wanted. They are surely a different beast to reverse engineer. I have no doubt racing gear manufacturers will increasingly take care of linux compatibility with the momentum in linux gaming. And then there are all these OSS wizards already working on the most exotic HW. SteamDeck I don’t know. I don’t see that many linux steamers sadly.

I’m a bit of a reverse engineer myself (insert william dafoe meme) and had a successful pull request for controlling rgb lighting on my headset. Nothing compared to steering wheels or the like but I never did reverse engineering before and knew just a little C and it worked and was fun. Thing was I needed Windows to monitor the USB data when switching stuff in the OEM software.

Yeah it’s great. I use it for youtube and twitch and I don’t need more than the volume, mute, forward/backward and fullscreen keys to use it. Never touched Lua. Do you use it with MPV yourself?

Windows 7 is yolo for a business. Support ran out in January 2023. But I guess it’s some hardware it needs to support, right?

Had that for a few years in my life too. The enterprise ran on Windows Server, MS Dynamics, MS VPN, Exchange etc. and the Dynamics Server could not be upgraded for years because so much depended on it. It was a tremendous effort to do it at the end.

I already used QEMU which was a heck more complicated than VirtualBox, although I got MacOS Big Sur running with acceptable speed at the end. Sadly no-joy with NVidia single GPU passthrough in the apple garden. But I plan to do it for Windows 10 because I want that fucking 1TB NVMe that the big ass of my Windows install is hibernating on for the second year.

What GPU are you using and if it’s Nvidia, was it difficult to enable?

Okular is the MPV of documents it seems. Regarding file-formats and UI. I only use it for PDF’s and I honestly had no clue it can read e-books and so much other formats. Even docx and odt with plugins. Also didn’t knew it has 3 dark-modes. Tyvm for your post.

Full on agree with KRunner. One of the MVP applications of KDE. So far none of the alternatives I tried on Windows 10 and MacOS come anywhere close to its power and elegance. Maybe Alfred which I tested years ago.

I could write 10 more paragraphs about why KRunner is one of the most advanced laucher/search/command application but I think everyone should experience it themselves. Best not to over-do it with the KRunner-plugins where an overwhelmingly long search result list could ruin your experience.

I went to MS forums for remembering how to write “sfc /scannow”, “Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth”, because it was often the first answer on a post. How-To’s concerning “bootrec” and “diskpart” were always to be found somewhere else. At least with sfc and dism it was always pray and hope it does something useful under the hood.

With an unbootable Linux partition (which seldomly happens) I mount it, chroot it and then have a plethora of fixes I can try, tools I can use and logfiles I can check instead of putting my self in the hands of 2-3 blackbox-apps. Manual fixing under Windows is possible but nobody can tell me it’s feasible with the repair console.

If it’s RGB stuff OpenRGB is a revelation. For mouses try Piper which is great too. Both unify the configuration of a lot of different brands in professional grade FOSS applications. There’s also the commandline app Headset-Control for which some small GUI frontends exists.

Know nothing about graphic tablets, trackballs or steering wheels but I heard from good experiences. When it comes to VR though…
