  • I get that, but it does seem like you’re getting at the point of niche where you’ll either be finding a torrent of it online, or manually ripping the disc yourself.

You can always sell the disc or donate it, since you’d have backed up digital copies. Maybe you can better justify the downsides of shipping by allowing their catalogue to be available in your area, even if it’s only a single copy for someone else to have. You could also alleviate some of those problems if they have more than just the one album/song that you want, as you’d be getting a few albums shipped instead of just one.

However, I do think there is one avenue left to explore for you. Have you tried reaching out to them personally? You may be able to just get in contact with them via social media or e-mail, and they may just hook you up and get your situation sorted. In any case, if this doesn’t work out I would genuinely suggest oredering from their store and having it shipped, ripping it, and having it be available for someone else via donation/sale/local library, while not ideal, isn’t entirely wasteful either.

Where they’re from, it’s a bit of a joke since the area has a bunch of, well, blue collar tweakers haha. Not unusual to see them walking down the Dam and nothing has changed, not for him when he wrote this song, not for me when I grew up listening to it, and not currently for these damned blue-collar tweakers running this here town!

  • I somewhat side with the person saying the kid may not entirely want to learn to code but make a game with the parent. I remember those days, the idea of using a computer to make something was beyond me but I made plenty of games on paper.

If the type of game fits, and I think now if the interest is truly in playing the game you make and having it come to fruition, I would scale it down as much as possible, make simple assets, then plot it out in tabletop simulator before making it an actual physical board game.

  • I had the idea to try and replace it as my “personal assistant” for a day after the app for Android released the voice chat for the free tier users. I had an old openAI account so I logged in and tried it out, Bluetooth buds in. Walked the dog, made breakfast, basically as if I were on the phone or “using Jarvis”. It was pretty cool, it misheard and repeated a lot of things when I didn’t say anything but for the purposes of when I did use it, it actually worked and was cool.

I’m not a meal or recipe planner but on my walk with my dog it gave me some ideas from what I had in my kitchen. I complained about my wet boots and it suggested giving them a coat of something to waterproof fabrics (like scotchguard). Had a conversation with an AI lol, it was interesting. There were some other things but they’re escaping me.

When I got back I thought to try asking it to mealplan for the week. Initially it just gave me a blanket answer with no details from me and I tried “again but with no ___” and it did pretty well, and it doesn’t read it out for 10 mins it just sends a list in text which is good.

A while back I had the idea to streamline information about songs, list key, root notes, the tempo, the scale used in the song, and scales that can be used along with it. Took a bit of prompt engineering but I got it replicable by just going “now tell me about ____ by ____”. And it had some pretty obscure stuff (like Xetrovoid, a fairly small artist). I’m fairly fluent and they seemed right but I double checked online and they were all accurate - save for the scales for a couple of them.

I don’t think I’d use it for getting information about all of the scales notes in a key but it may be worth trying.

  • Maybe instead of criminalizing these drugs the state should put more efforts in keeping its hospitals open and not shoving the homeless around like cattle. The police here are constantly evicting camps yet there’s no social programs for these people to get them the help they clearly need. Furthermore the recriminalization of drugs will only further exploit already poor people who can’t pay the fines.

The city of Springfield has a literal curfew and arrests the unhoused. They all migrate to Eugene and Junction City where that’s not happening yet. We have rains and below 0 nights and there are only a few housing alliances, which rightfully are drug free, which means a very small percentage of people are actually taking advantage of the one public service that is offered.

Re-criminalizing drug use isn’t the answer, at least it is far from the only one. I do not use and am against the harder drugs mentioned, but the option should be to go into a clinic that gives you safe prescribed dosages and at the same time offers you rehabilitation services. Cull the illegal sales, encourage getting ones life together and use the drug functionally (can’t use if you can’t buy, can’t buy if you can’t work). This puts people on the path to functional addiction which with enough support and being offered rehabilitation each time you go in to buy.

We should be following Portugal’s working example, not further pushing the prison complex. Though, what more would I expect from the sundown police state.
