Victron user here. The devices they build are rock solid. They may have some tiny quirks here and there but so do other manufacturers.

If you have some engineering background they are perfect. Everything is open, you can write software extensions in node red for example. Best part is it is modular with open interfaces and it uses standard battery voltages. You can optimize everything for your usage and I’m sure you can keep it Running for decades. A Multiplus has the look and feel of hardware made in the 60-70s. But in a good way: Built to last.

Price wise they are more expensive than chinese Equipment but not a lot more expensive than other systems from well known brands. Can highly recommend

You can estimate the time with a rule of thumb: it’s the battery capacity divided by the charging power.

So if you have a 100kWh battery:

• 1 hour if you charge with 100kW
• 0,5 hours with 200kW
• 0,33 hours with 300kW
• 0,25 hours with 400kW

And so on.

As I said this is an estimation. There are factors playing a role that result in losses or power limitation. So in reality it would take a bit longer.

Unfortunately it didn’t help that much. Thanks to the total incompetence of all mainstream parties in Germany, whose members usually just care about their personal income instead of Germany doing well, AFD managed finally to overtake all parties. I expect them to be in a coalition in one of the next two federal elections.

I am regularly in Kaiserslautern and seeing all the transport planes landing every couple of minutes has a huge gschmäckle

Imagine: You are the first human approaching the moon for a landing since 50+ years. Just a couple of seconds before touchdown the PC starts rebooting because an engineer clicked remind me later on earth and the PC registered that nobody moved the mouse or pressed a key for more than 3 nanoseconds so the user is surely AFK and has definitely nothing important going on so let’s close all open documents and reboot 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sometimes I dream about a nonprofit mega platform (like a web search with social media and a shopping platform included) that clearly communicates it‘s users that it will share all the knowledge with everybody that is interested in it for free in a privacy respecting way. Making this information basically worthless. Just to fuck with google and all the big players in the ad business.

A platform that is financed by donations and ads that have some sort of fair use pricing where small advertisers are even allowed to advertise for free (but the usage of ads is only allowed to compensate money that is missing to keep everything operational) A platform where small players can sell their stuff for free. A platform with social media, without any algorithms. Fuck it, let‘s even include a video platform and some sort of business platform just to make it complete.

As I said it must be a nonprofit. So it would basically have no intention to earn more than enough money to keep everything operational, making it the cheapest option for everybody and destroying all the mega corps out there that just can’t get squeezed enough revenue out of it’s users. This way we would be brought back to the golden ages of the internet 10-20 years ago.

I don’t want to sound negative but you’re both very young. If I think back to all the couples we had when we were your age I think all of them aren’t together anymore. I’m not saying you are going to split definitely but it may be very likely. People change a lot when they are growing up with age ~20+. So you may end up with the feeling of wasted time or missed opportunities if you wait a whole year.

Also, everybody should live his own life and solve his own problems. It’s going to get very hard for yourself if you jump in for everything. And your bf won’t learn lessons for his own life and doesn’t get a chance to grow.

I’d say don’t wait. Do your thing, your bf does his thing and you try to have a good time together in your free time 😁

That’s definitely not going to happen. One of the few things Windows is doing right is backwards compatibility. Have 30 year old exe? It usually just runs fine. In my experience a lot of business logic relies on this compatibility. It would be stupid from a business standpoint to break this compatibility. It would upset a lot of paying customers.

But wait a second. I’m speaking about Microsoft. All we wanted was a Windows 7 with a modernized GUI. And we got Windows 10 with Cortana, multiple Control panels, redundant settings that contradicted each other. We got Windows 11 with ads everywhere, Copilot, enforced MS accounts and so on.

It would perfectly make sense to switch to Linux. They could fire a lot of devs. I’m sure they would save a lot of money for a couple of seconds.

Obviously they don’t give a shit about customers, so this sounds like a normal thing Microsoft could do for short term gains.

You have experienced the pinnacle of Windows (we could probably also add Windows 7 to this). Do yourself a favor and never touch a Windows 10 and especially Windows 11 machine. It’s unimaginable how Microsoft managed to break everything that was working and how clever they are in terms of marketing to sell you stuff you don’t need.

They made me finally switch to Linux because my paid 365 subscription offered me to try the new outlook because Windows Mail was to be discontinued in future. I activated the test and the fun began: Only one of seven accounts was imported into outlook. Of course it was the only Microsoft account (Outlook). All other Accounts were ignored. I thought „Ok migration didn’t work, I’ll do it later manually“ I had a new email. I clicked on it. Edge opened although Firefox was my standard browser. It took me a couple of seconds to realize that I was clickbaited into opening an advertisement by one of the biggest companies on this planet.

This made me immediately stop my work and install Linux Mint. I’m not going back any time soon.

For job related reasons I have to use a lot of VMs. Unfortunately most of them are Windows 10. I created a naked installation years ago and basically use this as the base for individual development VMs. One of these annoyed me for days to make an update. All I could click was „remind me in one hour“ or update immediately. So I chose the one hour a lot of times. I finally let it update. Now my (Windows default!) task bar is transparent and also the whole windows menu. A colleague using the same VM with the latest updates (without changes to installed software) has no issues.

30 years ago we definitely had snow in winter. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But I remember playing in snow basically every winter as a kid. And I’m living in a very mild region of Germany. Now I’m considering all season tires (just for legal purposes) to not change wheels twice a year, since there is maybe some snow for one week in total.

Spoke with a guy this week who was born in the 30s. He said winter back then was much harder. Whole lakes or even rivers were frozen solid. I can’t imagine being able to walk to the other side of a major river…

But I’d say (at least that’s my experience) it’s not a very addictive substance. Or it depends heavily on the person.

I drink 0-5 cups a day. I like the taste and I like drinking it in some social settings. I don’t need it in the morning to get my body awake. I can just stop drinking coffee any time for longer periods of time without any issues.

Once I was working in Bavaria for about 6 weeks. We drank around 1l of beer every dinner. Returning home I wanted to drink a beer after the first dinner. This made me stop drinking alcohol for two months and since I made this experience I regularly stop consuming substances that may be addictive. I never experienced this with caffeine.
