  • I think you need to realize her concerns are entirely valid. Everything could go great and you could both have 1 working kidney then live long lives after. You could die on the table. You could give him your kidney and then 10 years from now your remaining one has an issue and then your on dialysis. etc. Your daughter is not wrong to be scared/concerned. You are not wrong to want to help your friend. Both of you have valid feelings about this. You just need to talk about them. In person preferably. Not over an email. Explain to her why doing this is so important to you. Make plans for what happens if the worst outcome happens. You need to seriously ask yourself: “Will my family be okay if I die on the table?” before you go do it. Because if the answer is no and you haven’t considered that yet it’s something you need to think about.

I hope everything goes well and you help your friend and both of you are fine. But I also hope you go into this understanding your daughters concerns, and being fully aware of all the risks.

  • but this garbage that they violently cut loose is insane.

I’m starting to think you non-americans are just unaware of what America is like. Nothing I said is abnormal for an American. Going Skeetshooting, going to the range, etc are all normal activities that millions of Americans do regularly. If you own a gun and don’t practice with it then that’s just irresponsible. Not a single thing I said is illegal to do, or violent. That is just your own fantasy. And the idea that your going to do a “national peaceful shutdown” and that’s not going to be met with mass violence, at which point you will need the people who weren’t so naive to come protect you, is hilarious btw.

  • So basically you can’t handle the idea that there are people who don’t think voting is going to make a difference? Even when i say to do it if you want to? I’m not telling people not to vote. I’m just saying my opinion on it. And then on the guns thing you say basically exactly what I said verbatim but then act like your version is the more reasonable and mine is somehow “violent” in a way yours isn’t. Like what do you think “protecting yourself” in a worst case scenario would look like? It would look like a civil war. Do you have some fantasy that you’d somehow just be going it alone like rambo and wouldn’t need to pick a side? What exactly do you take issue with in regards to guns that I was saying?

  • So… it depends. If it’s a normal laptop I’m not SUPER interested in it but don’t hate it. I do use the track pad a lot so if that was messing up I could use the touch screen. But normally I won’t use it in laptop mode. The depends is a 2 in 1. If I can flip it over and use it as a tablet I will do that. How nice it is depends on software tho in that case. A nice gesture based experience like Gnome would be great. But I doubt I’d enjoy doing that on windows. I haven’t used windows in years but I imagine a touchscreen on it would be not very intuitive.

So the Framework Pro 13 annoys me since it can’t flip all the way around. I actually am considering making a cyberdeck with an existing framework 13 mainboard I have and a framework pro screen and making it into a tablet form factor but nice and thick with plenty of ports and maybe a CD player. I’d love something like that.
