This defeats the purpose of the platform being distributed. For example if all political threads are on one instance it would be a ripe target for the authoritarian regimes popping up right now. I know there are dominant instances, but at least if one drops, people can migrate.

Digg? Now with AI? That Digg? You mean the Digg that lost all its users to Reddit in the first place? Not happening.
It’s quality and quantity. The quality has held despite a drop in users. Just wait and let Reddit have another controversy and we’ll get another infusion of converts. Popularity may only threaten more bots and scams.

Technology@lemmy.world•MIT engineers solve the sticky-cell problem in bioreactors and other industriesEnglish
21·3 months agoBubbles act as a water/air interface. The lipid membrane of a cell is a wall that has an internal hydrophobic layer made of phospholipids. Phospholipids when introduced to a water/air interface orient their hydrophobic side into the air, away from water. In other words the bubble rips the cell membrane apart by pulling phospholipids out of the membrane.

211·3 months agoYou know what’s worse for bioprocessing than sticky cells? Bubbles. The article implies this solves everything, when in reality it works on an edge case. Mammalian cells, and most cells lacking a tough outer wall, would never tolerate bubbles.

I’m not understanding that thread. Could someone explain?
