We really need another Swiss alrernative
We really need another Swiss alrernative
Agreeing with one statement doesn’t mean you side with all the points of a person/party.
Andy Yen is an idiot though, not going to lie about that one
We have to wait and see what the next audit is going to find, that will give us more security than any kind of information provided from Proton themselves.
The Swiss laws are also helping to make it so they keep the privacy standards high.
But I would definitely use your own domain for your Proton mail currently
This is most likely what is the issue and they are never going to be able to fix this on a platform like that
Nicely written blog post, it actually sums it up pretty nicely imo
Yen is an idiot yes I don’t anybody can disagree on that one.
But he was born in 88 and while it is well known on the internet the general public doesn’t know it’s other meaning (except the Germans and maybe the American’s).
I live in NL and I can ask around and the majority of people will not know what it means. Probably the same with 34, 69 en 420 for the matter.
I also don’t believe that endorsing one statement means that you agree with the entire pov of the person/party, but I am not American.
Believe what you want and the best thing is to just use a personal domain for your email
It’s not “his” company, the company is owned by the Proton foundation (of whatever it’s exactly called)
Yeah Yen is an idiot, but his power is more limited than with a normal CEO company structure and the Swiss law is a lot stricter than the competitors law in like Germany.
Just like with any of these mail servers, buy your own domain just incase the company switches gears and starts selling your data or whatnot
Well fair, I just found the Medium article to be more complete than most info that is shared around, but I already assumed that it was not complete. At the end the day I personally don’t have issues with Proton currently and they are still the best thing I can use since it’s located in a country like Switzerland. But I advice everybody to use their own custom domain so they can move whenever needed.
I am inclided to agree with you that Andy Yen is just an idiot and that Proton is doing it’s best to stay natural and make the most of the situation. However their communications team is pretty lackluster.
On another note, the article I linked is an opinion, so while it is laid out pretty well it is probably not telling the entire story. I have a custom domain on my Proton account so I can Switch if it ever goes to hell. I would advice you to do the same.
Tuta is located in Germany which is part of the fourteen eyes intelligence aliance. Germany also had a conservative party and a far right party win the elections.
Not saying Tuta isn’t good or anything, just wanted to share the info I have about it which might be relevant.
Tldr, the CEO is an idiot, Proton is bad at (social media) and there is a cultural difference between how people in the US look at politics
The whole 88 thing is not generally know except probably in Germany and the US.
He is an idiot yes, but the internet is also making it seem like if you agree with one statement you agree with all statements of that person/party which is just wrong.
Always use your own domain on Proton and others. The laws in Germany aren’t as friendly as the one in Swiss so that can be causing issues as well.
And considering a lot of people on the internet make comments without being fully informed, the backlash is probably huge.
Hate is spreading a lot quicker than the truth.
However, the original Twitter post and their doubling down are just stupid responses and they shouldn’t have made them.
According to the CEO in the LTT video about this thing it was a design choice made by AMD because otherwise they cannot get the ram speed they advertise.
What legislation would do that? Would they want access to your messages or something?
Generally companies use service contracts to keep those things working so mo they wouldn’t be replaced often. They are just a piece of shit
That depends a bit on if it was advertised or not to have a laundry room. At least here in NL it is more common to have your own washing machine than to use a shared one so having a laundry room would be an extra to start with.
Still sucks though
They are not allowed to just share data from users in other countries where privacy laws exist. It depends a bit on how GDPR is written in the specific country you reside and it it is enough, but generally they should be asking for censent if they try and access it.
Sadly we won’t have any idea when they try and access it, but this is the exact reason why businesses in NL like accounting firms (not bookkeeping firms) need to have their data in datacenter in NL to precent morons like this to access your data.
Pretty sure either Google E2E is non existent or it is alreayd opened up for the UK government or it is being opened in the future. I wonder if Proton is going to need to comply with this.
Switzerland is not the us though
