Times are looking tough right now but the pendulum can swing back at any moment. And when it does we won’t be starting back at square one. Might be a few years and a few wars until then. Maybe just an arms race and the odd proxy war. No way to know. All we can do is resist and wait.

I live in the pedestrian zone of a semi large city. I feed them from my window and there are no other birds in the area that they could drown out. Except crows maybe but those are much louder.
Feeding pigeons first thing in the morning. I have a reason to get out of bed and something to look forward to every day.
So apart from the websites that are purely based around being obnoxious so you’ll subscribe to their premium plan I’d say GitHub has been the least intuitive place to navigate for me.
This one is kinda well known but I’ve only recently started educating myself about the subject and came to the same conclusion:

I honestly don’t know which is faster since I’ve never used a microwave to boil water. An electric kettle is essential for me. It also boils water that can then be used for cooking so for me it’s versatile enough to justify the space. Toasters imo have much more limited use and those seem to be common in US households too.

My last flat was a little more remote in comparison but still nowhere near 3km to the next store. I wouldn’t be willing to walk that far for groceries tbh. I enjoy taking walks but not with a shitload of food I have to haul all the way home. That’s a cycling or public transport route for me.
If I was you I’d take a large hiking backpack or rolling suitcase, walk to the store an hour ahead and then ride the bus back home.
In Germany they’d charge extra for riding historic vehicles
That setup is not for everyone but if I had to get a new set right now I’d buy a medium sized fridge with a glass door (I already have a small one in my office and I love being able to see what’s inside without leaving the door open, the brand is called Klarstein) and a chest freezer. Chest freezers are way more efficient because the cold air stays put when you open them and they’re just practical for using all of the available space.
I’m German and as far as I’m concerned the people who want to flee the current US administration are exactly the type of people you want to welcome with open arms.
Opinel carbon steel pocket knife. They’re awesome. Cheap, robust and easy to keep sharp. Just need to oil the blade every now and then for corrosion resistance and you’re good to go.
