If you’re not into using the terminal, I’m going to suggest looking into one of the immutable distros (Bazzite if you’re heavily into gaming, Aurora/Bluefin if you’re more generic Windows/Mac respectively).
All the important things that make the computer run, you can’t (easily) change. All the stuff you care about, you can. As long as you reboot it from time to time, it’ll always be up to date. It’s meant for people who just want to use their computer and not tinker too much with it.

10·2 months agoThe Dems are primarily right of centre capitalists who think they’ll win if they appeal to the “centrists” between the two parties (hasn’t worked), and the Repubs are literal Nazis. So yeah, not great.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it common for family members to spy on each other's sexual behavior to find evidence of "degeneracy"? Or did I grow up in hell?English
7·2 months agoI grew up in a crazy Christian environment, really messed with me for a long time. Go to therapy. You don’t have to stick with the first person you try, and it took me a few to find the right person to just click with. But you’re gonna need to talk this shit out. It’ll be rough, but worth it in the end. A good therapist will listen and ask questions, but they’re not going to make you do anything, least of all make ammends with people who are a bad influence on your life. You got this.

For reasons that don’t make any sense to me, that seems to really bother them. 🤔

Yeah, there is a lot of focus on getting your site out, but I just ignore all that part. I just wanted a nice place to self-host my travels without having to think much about it and it seems to fit that bill. But yeah, there is a place to discover other feeds and to comment on other people’s posts from the Fediverse and what not.
I jumped on Meshtastic but found it got too congested with noise in a medium-sized city making it difficult to get much out there. Switched to Meshcore and have had a much better time communicating. Seattle’s full on made it equivalent to SMS, which makes me jealous. But YMMV 🤷🏼♂️
I just spun up my own Ghost blog, being self-hosted and interacts with the Fediverse. Plus it’s pretty without me needing to know how.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•how did you make the switch from reddit to lemmy.. i'm trying to myself but struggling to nglEnglish
101·3 months agoIn the Lemmy word, sure. I was referring to Mastodon where there is no hot or rising. It’s just based off of who you’re following and when you check. Hence likes doing nothing but informing the poster of your appreciation.

41·3 months agoYour edit is a bit like that in the Fediverse in general. Since there’s no algorithm, liking a post in Mastodon does nothing beyond letting op know you appreciate them. I like that.

12·4 months agoIn general, you should treat anything you post on any social media like an op ed in a newspaper. Once it prints, there’s no taking it back.

Hard to say. On one hand I’ve always known though I didn’t have the words for it. But I also grew up in a fundamental church, so it was a sin and I denied it. Didn’t formally admit it until 24 though.
