I just updated both my phone and my wife’s. I went from an iPhone 13 to a 17, and stayed with apple only because I am locked in to the ecosystem by IT policies. Fortunately, the allowance for using my own device covers 80% of the cost of the phone and plan. My previous phone wasn’t charging reliably, and after an unfortunate incident where it was wet for an extended period, was doing some odd things.

Wife had a pixel 6a which was no longer holding a charge, or reliably charging. Upgraded that to a pixel 10.

I have sent both old phones to be fixed, which includes a new battery for the pixel and will be donating them to a Women’s shelter when they come back.

Outside of the US, MAGA is used to refer to the ultra right wing as a shorthand. For example, my boomer parents in New Zealand are referred to as MAGA by the rest of the family, and identify as such.

It wasn’t easy getting into that routine. I get up at 4:30 for my weekday walk, and it takes about an hour. Weekend walks start at 5:00am, and generally take 1.5-2 hours. Gym is two hours, once or twice during the week and both weekend days. Life still gets in the way sometimes, and I am lucky that my job is flexible. For example, I started work at 6:30 this morning and will knock off at 2:30 and go straight to the gym. I will be home before 5:00.

The alternative was living with the results of an injury and letting my health deteriorate further than it already had. Some days, motivation is still hard.

Walk 5km a day during the week, and 8-10km a day on weekends. Weights three to four times a week, and a cardio session afterwards. I like using the ski machine, as it gives me a serious workout without any impact.

Weights has had a huge impact on my quality of life, as I am recovering (recovered?) from a serious head injury. I was not active for nearly 18 months and am feeling good about my body for the first time in years.

Stop trying so fucking hard

Yeah, I know the statistics. My crash I spoke about was off road, on private farmland, riding my enduro bike. I do ride on road, as well as on closed circuits when I can, but two wheels is no longer my only form of transport. I used to do over 100,000 km a year on road, on various motorcycles. Now it’s closer to 15,000.

I understand the risks. I also know what it does for me and my mental health.

I’ll never give it up. Well, unless I’m a danger to others.

Late 50’s and always been fit. I had a crash on my motorcycle (off road, went over the bars) which took three weeks to recover from. Serious bruising to both legs as they caught on the bars. Had trouble walking for three days. Limped for over two weeks. Still got legs that range from yellow to purple.

Finally figuring out that my teen years are behind me. Now reconsidering buying a Ducati desmo450mx. Might have to be a fucking golf cart instead.

I left reddit a little over two years ago. The API debacle was the end, though I had been mostly offline for a few months prior.

The fediverse has only gotten better since. However, this is my fourth account. I joined vlemmy, which disappeared overnight, then lemm.ee, which shut down recently, then another instance which wasn’t for me, and now reddthat. I also signed up for hexbear after a few beers, forgot my password, haven’t been able to contact the mods, didn’t use an email address and haven’t been able to get back in since.
