  • Not to defend the pope and his lack of prosecution of these pedophiles, but you have to remember that the rule of a leader is never absolute. A leader still has to answer to either the lay people, the nobles/elites, or both. Or else a leader will have to face a rebellion in some form or another. That being said, the problem is that Pope Francis has to go against a significant number of pedophiles and other ultraconservative priests. The Vatican is a hotbed of political intrigue as much as in the royal courts, congress or parliaments. There has been a talk of conservative discontent on Pope Francis for many years now; many of whom adore the pope’s more conservative predecessor, Benedict XVI. I mean, how else would a pope get elected by its own elites other than to also engage with politics? It’s not different to your everyday office politics or government.

  • The Supreme Court must be impartial regardless of legislative and executive political mudslinging of the time. That’s the whole point of different branches of government.

If SCOTUS made the decision after seeing Trump and Biden debate, or knowing Republicans will control both houses, then they aren’t doing their job as they should. There’s a reason why juries are encouraged not to watch TV or media that would cloud their decision, and the same should apply to judges.

People forget the bloody whole point of checks and balance!

  • I distinctly remember a news from years ago of a small town mayor from Southern Italy, who was warmly and openly welcoming migrants to prevent depopulation and revive his town, but was arrested for whatever reason. Granted, there could be more to nuance to this, but this also happened during the time when Mateo Salvini’s far-right party is in a coalition government (now the Italian government is firmly on the further right with Georgia Meloni as PM in coalition with Salvini). So, the arrest of that small town mayor is probably politically motivated and sending signal to toe the line and with far-right policies.

  • Trump is a far bigger Israel supporter, considering he ordered to move the American embassy to Jerusalem when he was president, which is a big no-no to any other US presidents before.

I agree on the second paragraph but that’s virtually every where on earth. People are sick of the lock downs, which is understandable as there are people having been furloughed and businesses losing money, and not to mention the effect on mental health. Even China, whose people are passive to authoritarian structure, had major protests condemning the zero-COVID policy; which by the way, experts also say does not work as much as the gradient restrictions does not.

  • The real problem is due to the regulatory environment. Yes those rules are important, but they’ve also effectively banned new aircraft from being built.

Should we laugh at this? Lolz? If anything regulations should encourage better safety innovations! Government wants safety and efficacy from corporations that directly affect people’s lives. Just look at Volvo and tell me their reputation isn’t known for safety.

Regulations are pain in the hole, I get it, but without it we are back to the days of selling snake oils and monopolies of the Gilded Age. As they say in my field: “Do you think compliance is expensive? Think non-compliance.” The only people discouraging regulations are the ones who stand to benefit from ridding it in the name of short term profit. STOCKS ARE UP!
