Since I invariably wind up getting “name suits” types of comments, here’s the explanation behind it:
Around the turn of the millennium, I was trying to come up with a username to use on a particular site that had a shortish character count limit for usernames. My goal was something related to the fact that I would often be making my points in arguments with “holier-than-thou” types by taking what they were saying, and turning it on its head so the offensive stuff was directed back at them.
I also happened to learn shortly beforehand that many years ago “'ape” was somewhat commonly used as a verb to mean “imitate” or “copy.”
I’m sure you can figure the rest out.

Ars has been around since the mid 1990s. Granted the sale to Conde Nast changed them slowly over time, as well as broadening the focus significantly, but it was likely a case of grow or die since the PC nerd market isn’t anywhere near what it used to be.

Oh, so that’s the reason you & Dad are always fighting!

…let’s not get started on line endings
Aww! But, Mom…!

I mean… it wasn’t exactly difficult to predict this outcome. How many of their employees actually found it useful outside of the C-suite (where they thought it was fantastic because it bullshits just like they do)?

Like every life-long bootlicker who got that way via being bullied long-term from a young age, they will twist themselves into knots to avoid the (*gasp!*) humiliation from being shown to be wrong and/or a fool. They will say they deserved it before admitting they were wrong.
IMHO, bullying does the most long-term & significant damage to society as a whole. Especially when it’s long-term like when it comes from your own family.

I’d say that pretty much goes for humans everywhere. The differences are mostly cultural, and - as time goes on - the uber-aggressive types in each culture slowly find ways to take over no matter what it takes, eventually ruining things from within due to their inability to ever be satisfied and fair.

“Bad boys, bad boys, whatchu gonna do?
Whatchu gonna do when they come for you?”

Now he plays Xbox Dead.
Ba-dum-tish!

Courteous? Absolutely. Common? Not so much.
The Aldi store where I used to live required a quarter to free the shipping cart from the chain linking it to the next cart in the stall lineup. The idea being you’d have return the cart to the stall to re-insert said link from the next cart you pushed yours into in order to get your quarter back. Seemed to work rather well, but I imagine fewer people carry actual cash nowadays so I’m not sure how that’s working out for Aldi nowadays.

I normally try to avoid encouraging schadenfreude, but then there are cases like this where those stupid enough to kiss up to bullies get what they give. Sadly, his outcome will probably be better than those in Minneapolis who were fighting for his ability to remain here.

But they’d better not edit The Don, amirite? What a fucking nightmare this all is.

I wish I had the kind of time and money required for effing around like this.

I actually feel the same, but I was trying to not be too much of a downer.
Thanks for the recommendation, but I’m already subscribed. If you read the post a couple months ago from someone who just got a tiny phone, I made a longish comment on it with my own mini-review of it.

I was already aware of much of what you said, although I probably hadn’t gazed down the road quite as far.
However, what I was referring to was the regulation the commenter I replied to was calling for. What I meant was that proper legislation wouldn’t happen until the “rugpull” you described actually happens, and the economy finally goes into the recession it would otherwise already be deep into at this point. Being delayed so long may make it especially ugly, I fear - or it may just bridge us into the next thing that keeps the economy propped up, such as the robotics you mentioned.
May you live in interesting times, indeed.

That won’t happen until the brick wall is not only hit, but completely demolished. While Democrats are significantly more rational than Republicans, they are still almost as much in the oligarchs’ collective pockets. Only the Progressives give me any hope, but there aren’t nearly enough of them in Congress yet to make shit happen.
With the limits of longevity still being pushed, I’d suggest sticking with the OP binary search theme and start at 64.
At 16, she was FAT.
At 32, she was still FAT32.
But by 64, she was exFAT.

Make sure you have adequate filtration methods and means of boiling it to kill most of the buggies. You never know what’s being done elsewhere that will affect your supply.
