I’d like to know if this is just a firmware update or unfixable, but sadly this seems just an ad rather than news

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is CruchyRoll still the 'best' paid anime streaming service to use in the U.S.?
28·10 months agoAFAIK they bought their only real competition (funimation). Regarding recommendations: I personally find piracy streaming sites have the best recommendations, I mostly use them just for recommendations and don’t even watch there, also you could take a look at !anime@ani.social, specifically the recommendation threads
Email client or provider? For client I’d go with thunderbird for provider mailbox.org or Tuta, or maybe proton (but mainly the first two).
As the other comment mentioned, this isn’t the community, I’d check out !privacy@lemmy.dbzer0.com (asklemmy also may not be the right community, it’s explicitly not a support community)

BuyFromEU@feddit.org•UPDATE: Best Maps alternativeEnglish
17·11 months agoPersonally I use organic maps. FOSS, open street map based, private and offline. Doesn’t have built in reviews but links to a review service (kayak)

BuyFromEU@feddit.org•Is starting massively pirating things the right thing to do?English
4·11 months agoWell, there is a Lemmy community dedicated to the topic which has info on the safety of websites, there is browser extension that shows if a site is considered safe and you can do the regular security stuff (Ublock, Virustotal). While I’m not saying you should pirate, you could definitely do so securely

Kinda ironic isn’t it?
I think the main problem is they don’t want to maintain multiple accounts
I pictured that last sentence as a three star Amazon review and for some reason I found that insanely funny

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Nazi flags can fly in Utah school, but not pride flags, GOP lawmaker saysEnglish
111·11 months agoIt also makes a lot of sense because in German the salute is called “Hitlergruß” (which literally translates to Hitler salute), because the accompanying words were mostly “Heil Hitler” and not “Sieg Heil” (which also was used, but less common), so you were saluting Hitler. So when Musk does it is in fact a “Sieg Heil”, but when somebody else salutes the American flag it is a Musk salute because you are saluting Musk, the Führer of the USA

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What explains "the Left's" rightward shift on copyright?
9·11 months agoI believe “the Left” doesn’t really have that much of a problem with copyright, it’s just that the current implementation is absurd regarding length and because of the way stuff like the DMCA and the general society is structured, it is very much rules for thee but not for me with the companies. Copyright (in its current form) mainly protects the revenue of companies while imposing large restrictions on the consumer and by an extent derivative works. However with AI, not only are the models trained and content to which large corporations have control over but also stuff like blogs, copy left code, indie books etc, so this would be one of the cases where copyright could (and should IMO) protect the authors, but realistically this will be a fight entirely between the big players, be it copyright holders or AI companies, that have the funds to fight the legal battles. I think that this has shown a lot of people that, at least in a capitalist society, there should be some form of copyright, but definitely in a reformed way that actually protects creators instead of corporations and doesn’t last indefinitely. Copyright is also very much a problem for left leaning ideology under capitalism ideally there would be no copyright but creators would still get paid, which isn’t really compatible with capitalism.

381·11 months agoI think Wikipedia is a could we to judge a country. As soon as the government tries to fuck with Wikipedia they are 100% assholes and anyone who is not also an asshole should not support/vote for them.

3·11 months agoRegarding YouTube, the only real options you have are Peertube (which has little content and a discovery problem) or Odysee (which is fine as long as you don’t look at the comments)
As for E-Mail, due to the recent proton situation the only real option (unless you don’t care about that) is self hosting

AFAIK per EU law the collected data has to stay in data centers in the EU, ChatGPT and Gemini at least pretend to conform while Deepseek explicitly states that the data is stored in Chinese data centers.
