Not everyone has the luxury of choosing where they work. People need to eat. Are some people complacent? Sure. But that doesnt mean every person working at Microsoft is a horrible person.

I’m forgetting the episode but darknet diaries podcast had one where a guy took revenge against a former employer and wiped out an entire schools email system and wiped all phones that has logged into the school email. This was done from compromising the school’s outlook admin account.
That was the first time i learned that logging into the employer email could give them the level of control over your device. Fortunately i never have done that for the #2 reason.
Agree. I had that much garlic last night
I just returned it, but my idea was a separate VLAN and block all connections except for whitelisted ones for streaming. Smart tvs/rokus/etc do a lot of talking and they could theoretically brick themselves if there isn’t an internet connection available.
The future is a wonderful place!
Last tv i bought wouldn’t let you set it up without connecting to the internet. Guess we’ll need open hardware tvs next if they don’t aleady exist
My health insurance denied covering my vasectomy so i put it off. Later that year i was in an accident and hit my max out of pocket pretty quick. I called up my doctor and had them resubmit the preauthorization. got it covered at 100%
I’m still pretty pissed that sterilization for women is covered at 100% under my plan but not for men. (It should be both 100% imo)
i did recently go through and turn off auto renewal on a few. I still have several projects i never launched though that I’m holding out hope for… someday
Here are some good rule of thumbs for work and schools:
do not connect to their networks with your personal devices, ever.
Only use work/ school devices on their own network.
Do not do anything personal on those networks. only do work/school related tasks. This means don’t log into any non school/work accounts.
If for some reason they don’t have a device for you but require you to use their network, then leave your personal devices at home claiming you don’t own one and make them accommodate you.
You cannot expect privacy in these situations, and by going to the extreme lengths to try to get it then you will ironically just paint a bigger target on your back if any network admin cares. In some cases this can cost you your job or get you in trouble with the school.
I only checked replicate api but you can generate 333 images for $1. Ofc takes some know-how but it’s cheap if you can get it set up
Try penguin, but hole
I had a domain with them but at the time auto-pay was “auto-pay-from-acct-balance” as opposed to “auto-pay-with-the-credit-card-we-have on-file”
So i missed the renewal date, paid more to renew within grace period, and then transferred to a registrar with actual auto pay.
Otherwise they were great for that first year and i had no issues
let me ask this: what is your threat model? Don’t tell me, ask yourself that and work through it if you haven’t already.
Going full 100% and trying to become a shadow overnight if a great recipe for burning yourself out and not trying. Instead look at your specific threat model and work on the biggest things one step at a time. Make it a journey and only take a new step once you’re comfortable with the last.
Hello from a human, fellow human. Or are you a bot posing as a human to draw out the humans and kill us? Oh no
It’s an ai roleplay app of some sort. The user (pink text) instructed it to say hello world in html and the ai did it. Showing the app vulnerable to prompt injections since it didn’t do any kind of validation before sending the request to chatgpt/similar and then returning the response.
Ultimately, arguing that you don’t care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don’t care about free speech because you have nothing to say.
Mullvad also put together this recently: https://mullvad.net/en/why-privacy-matters/nothing-to-hide
Did we read the same blog announcement?
Proton AG will still need to be financially feasible. That is not changing. You can still not give them money if youd wish. They just have backed up their mission statement with actions instead of just words.
They did, and they still have the rpi foundation with that goal, as well as the for-profit subsidiary.
It’s a flaw with effective altriusm-- you have a goal of fixing some large scale problem and at some point you realize you need large amounts of capital to expand your impact. But the interim period you are just going to be amassing wealth with this idea of doing good. And even then, you may never reach a point where you feel like you earned enough to solve your problem. I.e sam bankman fried
Now I’m not saying that rpi foundation hasn’t done good in the world. I’m just saying that they did start off with a lofty goal and it is clear that they are wanting to expand and make more money. Maybe this means someday they’ll be able to do even greater things through the rpi foundation… but I’m not optimistic
They’ve already gone downhill since 2020 when they couldn’t keep up with the demand and focused on B2B sales. This really isn’t a surprise to me
I wish there was one about vegan pizza 69 though
Being Mormon.
They always told us that people who gave us anti-mormon literature just made stuff up and it was Satan’s way of tempting us. They said to never take any anti-mormon literature and if someone did give it to you then to throw it away without reading.
But at the same time they taught us that the Mormon church was the true church. And they also taught us truth was absolute. Well, i figured if truth is absolute, and if the church was THE true church then it would be able to withstand any criticism. So i read anti mormon literature, like the CES letter. From there i did my own research about various things and found that the Mormon church made up a lot of stuff and did lots of gaslighting.
There was some specific issues that i also had been struggling with, like their treatment of women, gays, and black men/women. That also helped push me to want to make sure if the Mormon church was really true. And it wasn’t. Now i can love my friends unconditionally.
