15·7 days agoSo when I came here from Reddit I didn’t know what to pick, so I picked .world figuring it would be bigger or something. Over time it seems like people are saying that .ml is just horrible. I actually thought that .ml stood for militant full of right wing tankies ( don’t know the exact definition of that either). Lately someone essentially berated me for being on the worst one. Just now, I went to the little pull out on the side to see how to change it and what the options were and didn’t even see how to do that.
Bottom line, I have no clue how any of this works. I just wanted to see some interesting content, news from a different perspective, some fun memes, and some cool comments. I don’t even understand what fediverse means other than it’s kind of like borg technology, meaning that the information is spread across a bunch of servers instead of a single point of failure.
Maybe one day I’ll look into all of this, but seriously I have a life. As long as I open it and get what I want, I’m good. I almost never post because they are almost always removed for violating some rule. The last time I posted a question on a Linux forum and was getting some really good answers only to have it removed for violating a rule I didn’t even understand. LOL.
Good luck to you.

5·7 days agoI respectfully commented in there once and was politely asked not to. It wasn’t really that militant, but I did get that vibe, so I believe you that that would happen.

Ok, but my point is that, if you want them to switch to Linux and because you like it and seem to hate Windows, I think that’s a reasonable assumption, treating them poorly will not make that better for anyone. They won’t want to put forth the effort and as a primarily Windows user and having tried Linux on many occasions, I can say it can be a daunting task especially when you need to use the command line. In the past I can honestly say that I have had a lot of help from very knowledgeable and friendly Linux users. But please don’t deny that Linux users aren’t just a little bit elitist.
In fact I can already picture the current Linux community complaining about the state of Linux if it were to skyrocket in popularity. Suddenly it would be like, all these stupid Windows users coming to Linux, ruining the experience. Companies trying to profit off of it. I liked it better when it was a small community.
And that’s why they don’t switch to Linux.

My nephew does that. I think it’s weird.
I DID do that with my step-father but that’s different, I think, because when my mom was dating I wasn’t going to call him Dad. And after years of calling him by his name it felt weird to start calling him anything else.
