  • Nah just get the work certed, it’d be available for anyone, it just needs to pass the “No AI was used at all” test, and that can be done by giving creative software tools the ability to sign files whenever AI or screen shotting tools get used in their making

I think the approach of providing software tools the ability to grant the cert if no AI tools are used will be the way to really spread the practice, can even work with them to create a cert mode that just doesn’t even present those tools to the user in the first place.

The next step would be getting publishing sites to use the cert or signature as a check that either blocks the upload or more leniently get a visual marker that indicates it was not made with generator tools.

Plus checking for the cert also eliminates the crisis of teachers having to outsmart GPT to avoid their students cheating on takehome essays.

  • Eh, whackamole enforcement usually cuts mustard with this kind of stuff.

Like yeah someone’s gonna do it anyways just because, but then all it takes is enough people raising an alarm to bring it down, and as a side effect, remove more shitass developers from the market.

You end up with an equilibrium where not every example is getting the hammers of justice, but enough examples are that the average consumer still feels the benefit of a noticeably less toxic internet.

  • No it really doesn’t, getting called stupid is far below the standard of even the minimal consequences oil and gas companies have faced in those 50 years. Or the public condemnation of such.

These people are the “bUt DeMs SaMe!” of facing the consequences of their own actions. The only way you could genuinely think nothing is being done and that some forever student college kids are getting harsher treatment than the most hated companies in the world is if you’re in a position of blinding privilege that obscures the real world movement in the situation.

Brics is basically the “we don’t like the west!” club of countries that think they’re entitled to being great powers for… basically just cause.

Brazil is basically just trying to manifest being a fully developed industrial economy, Russia is clinging to the dying scraps of being the second great power, India has all the potential, manpower, and material but is currently hanging itself with a nationalist noose in terms of being able to so business with anyone besides maybe Surinam, China tries to act like they’re not bothered by having to do work to achieve international standing but VERY OBVIOUSLY resent that the world hasn’t just reverted to the pre-age-of-colonialism status quo of China being the top of the world in terms of trade, and South Africa has apparently collapsed five times since 2020 alone with how many headlines you hear about it.

  • I mean stanger things have happened in political history, every amendment to the US constitution that expanded the right to vote was passed by a country of leaders elected before those expanded rights went into effect, meaning the wider voting pool would inherently risk negatively impacting them even insofar as having to spend the time and energy campaigning to the newly enfranchised.

Taking for granted that the rich and powerful can never be made to accept changes wich negatively impact their wealth and power is a dangerous game of giving in to the most advantageous form of cynicism to the rich and powerful, the kind where you stop expecting anything of them and stop pushing for accountability when they fail those expectations.

  • Honestly this just makes me think that schools and universities should be shuffling their staff and teachers to keep one or the other school from becoming “the good one” that becomes a magnet for nepo babies and tomorrow’s burnout cases.

That level of direct competition is just gonna lead to people who are NOT able to work cooperatively or really trust anyone.

Plus breaking up the nepo clubs is important for keeping the social ladder at a reasonable angle to climb, college should be everyone’s chance to make important connections, not just for the Ivy League alums’ kids while everyone else gets told it’s about getting the piece of paper and having lots of free pizza while you’re doing it.
