I think down voting things you disagree with or want to discourage is a perfectly valid way to use them, and better in most cases than responding and further escalating a shit fight.

If something you post gets heavily downvoted, that’s information. You now know that your opinion is unpopular in that community. If you get down voted frequently and it really bothers you, it might be time to do some introspection on what you think or how you present yourself. Not all opinions are created equal, and you’re not entitled to people’s attention.

I can appreciate the opinion that discussion would be better, but I don’t think it’s realistic. Many times bad takes are coming from people who have no intention of listening, and just want to spew hate or argue. Down voting and moving on is a much better use of people’s time than arguing with these people. If for no other reason than preserving one’s mental health. It sends a message without feeding the trolls in other words.

As for how I use them? Funny/uplifting/valuable posts = upvote Don’t get it/not interesting to me = nothing Shit take/spam/obnoxious person/wrong community = downvote

I believe the important part is to make people scroll, not just the number of words. For some unholy reason google considers that a better website.

That’s also why some sites have a “go to recipe” button at the top now, which auto scrolls you to the recipe. They don’t care that you read the text, only that you scrolled a lot.

See here’s the controversial take. I don’t agree with you at all. It was literally built up for the entire series and was the only natural conclusion. She was literally saying “I plan to break the wheel” from the start. That is not language a peaceful person uses. Her goals to begin with were those of a conqueror, and what we got was the natural end of that ambition when it crashes into reality.

I think it was done beautifully, and the fact so many people bought into her side of things and felt betrayed is evidence of how well done it was.

While there were some truly awful moments in the last season of game of thrones, danaerys’ arc was not one of them. Her going nuts was hinted at from the beginning and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

I’d say based on his last 3 songs he is now fully political. I mean we’ll see what he does next, but Hind’s Hall 1 and 2, and Fucked Up are all super political and powerful songs.

I’m too old to say what anything this generation is, but look up “fucked up” by Macklemore. Came out at the start of the year and it’s the most rage against the machine esque thing I’ve heard in years. Got me riled up.

Is there much depth to that? I’ve found in the past they keep adding new systems, and each new one has exactly the same issue of being another thing that’s not super deep. And by deep I mean full of surprises and things to learn, not you can technically do it for a long time.

I’ve tried to get into it periodically. I like aspects of it, but it’s also very bland in some ways I find. Like there are infinite cool planets to discover, but the resources are more or less the same on each and across the whole thing. There’s so much to see, but so little meat on the bones I guess?

I need a bit more pulling me forward than what that game gives you I think. The phrase “wide as an ocean, shallow as a puddle” has been my experience with it unfortunately. I know a lot of people like it these days, though.

A good piece of art has loads of details and nuances that came from the artist’s taste and vision. The longer you look at it the more there is to appreciate. You keep finding new details you missed as you study it.

Ai gens are the opposite. They look fine and competent at a cursory glance, but the longer you look the less meaning you find, and the more defects you discover. Personally I believe this is why they feel so wrong to look at for any length of time.
