The problem with imperialism and colonialism is that colonized people eventually break free. The British Empire squandered its ill gotten wealth with nothing to show for it.

“History ended on 26 December 1991, there’s no past, present or future. Capitalism and liberalism have won and there’s nothing to learn.”

And I went from being genuinely concerned that it may drag down BRICS to glad it didn’t join. The author is in an alternate universe.
Maybe we can finally liberate Ceuta and Melilla
I have negative sympathy for Germany. Nothing but schadenfreude here
What about the billions in US aid? months of delaying the inevitable at best?
Only if Germany lasts decades.
Do you think China should do the same to European imports?
They could turn it into an actual community if they gave the houses for free. Instead they would rather do this and keep house supply low. Though maybe it is not a desirable town to live in, they could still host refugees in it.
None of the leavers expected this outcome. Though it wasn’t just Brexit that lead to this.
Germany falling a victim to neoliberalism. It is the same divorce between productivity and real wages we see elsewhere. This is exacerbated by the US blowing up Nord Stream, and I’m still puzzled by how Germany allowed it to happen without any objection. NATO is clearly not alliance of equals.
I haven’t read the article, yet, but I will go back to a statement a Saudi official made about how the Chinese are willing partners and don’t impose insufferable terms on economic and technological partnerships. The Saudi official mentioned how Saudi Arabia first pursued such deals with Western countries, but the terms demanded were unfavourable, and so China is winning because the West is choosing to lose.
Edit:
I’m reading it now, and this is a very critical piece of information:
“Belt and Road Initiative’’ partner countries have increased their imports of Chinese products by 8.9% in the past decade alone, while in 2021, bilateral trade between the Persian Gulf countries and China grew at a record 44.3%. When the global economy slowed in 2022, trade between the Gulf countries and China still grew 27.1%, a stark contrast to the falling trade between China and both Japan and the United States.
While Western regimes were barking like rabid dogs over BRI, China was winning new markets and reducing its dependence on the West.
China’s “Official Policy Document on Arab Countries” describes the advantages of “wooing” Arab states through investment and trade, aerospace technology through the Beidou navigation system, as well as “cooperation in weapons and equipment” and “joint military training.”
We like being wooed, much more than being coerced.
Notably, the exercise was held in China’s restive Xinjiang region, where the Chinese government has reportedly detained more than 1 million Muslims in reeducation camps.
And the only source they cite is the Council on Foreign Relations.
Schadenfreude is my favourite German word. and to think the damage is self-inflicted! blinded by ideology, destroying their own country.
The disease is caused by a parasite known as the capitalist class.
Solidarity with comrades in the British Isles
The US did a number on Germany, but most people won’t make the connection. A lot are still convinced that Russia destroyed Nord Stream.
The deindustrializing of a fascist and racist regime is a win in my book.
The EU is an anti-communist bloc, it needs to fracture.
