Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•whats the cheapest legal way to dispose of my dead body so i can stick it to the funeral industry?
7·3 months agoDo a viking funeral. You know, that ceremony where you are sent out in a boat and a fire arrow is fired into the boat so it burns down while floating into the sunset.
But skip the boat. Have someone chuck you into the ocean and shoot arrows at you until you sink.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How would you feel about cranks (to power a machine) making a comeback?
3·4 months agoAs cars become more autonomous, it leaves room for you to do other things. So why not add something to let you work out while driving? Like a cycling machine or treadmill which generates power to drive the car.
I decided to switch to mac a couple of years ago. I have been extremely unhappy with the results. I have a good mechanical keyboard which is built for both PC and Mac (it has Mac-specific keys), but nope, compability sucks and keybindings are messed up across a lot of the keys, making it basically a guessing game each time I need a paranthesis. I usually work within a Linux VDI. Within the VDI, keybindings are further messed up, making it hard to find the correct keys, even on the integrated laptop keyboard. I have a usb-c connected screen/docking station which only connects properly about 75% of the time. I have a stream deck which randomly refuses to connect, making me have to unplug and replug every now and then. I regularly want to connect to multiple display, which often turns put to be unsupported and basically impossible.
To me, it just seems like compability for mac is completely terrible. A lot of the issues could be solved by throwing more money at apple - by getting an apple keyboard or apple screen or subscription software - but for stubborn people like me, apple is not getting a dime for these kind of issues. None of these issues existed before I got the mac.
I am leaving the apple ecosystem for good when my company allows me to get a new machine.

Technology@lemmy.world•Delta moves toward eliminating set prices in favor of AI that determines how much you personally will pay for a ticketEnglish
1·5 months agoSure, I accidentally use AI and LLM interchangeably. But I believe the point still stands. If they were asked to trace the source of the price difference, it likely exists within layers upon layers of training data aimed at maximizing profits, and it would probably be impossible to give an answer as to what data has been used to produce the result in the long run.

Technology@lemmy.world•Delta moves toward eliminating set prices in favor of AI that determines how much you personally will pay for a ticketEnglish
102·5 months agoI have predicted this for a while now. As this will take effect, the airline no longer have responsibility for what sets the prices. The AI could for instance become very racist, driving prices through the roof for colored people if it somehow determines that well-paying racist customers will pay more to fly with only white people. Several scenarios like that could unfold, and since LLMs are basically impossible to get the source values for their decissions, no one can be held responsible for such choices.
Oh, and I’m sure the data from 23andMe will be abused soon to ensure that only healthy people get good prices. The personal data which “didn’t matter that we shared” is about to unfold.
Could also be done recursive, I guess?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Europeans, how far do you walk for groceries?
14·5 months agoIn Norway. Technically in a city, but it’s very rural. About 30 minutes of walking with a descent of ~150 meters. Carrying groceries back up that hill is a big test of stamina, so we very rarely do it. We mostly drive to the store.
Your friend is full of shit. 3km is a very long distance for walking to get groceries, and I can imagine that you have to deprioritize heavier groceries all the time due to that distance. I’d recommend getting a bike or electic scooter or something to cover that distance. Basically no one in Norway would have 3km to their nearest store with walking as their only option.

Slay the Spire: it’s the same game as on PC or any other medium. Fantastic game. Obviously costs the same as other places (about $10), but well worth it!
Pokemon TCG Pocket. I started early with this, so I have had no problem with being F2P, but I’m sure that late adopters would need to pay some amount to become competitive. Still should be playable F2P, though. Anyways, it’s amazingly unintrusive when it comes to real money transactions. No interrupting ads and you basically have to search for the in-game shop to find the microtransactions.
Roller Coaster Tycoon Classic. This one might have changed since I got it ~8 years ago. It’s a pretty good mobile version of the original game. I’ve spent a lot of time with this game.
