Not exactly an answer to your question, but if it’s helpful, I’ve basically been using Pixelfed as my image hosting. Not sure how correct this is but my thought was that they’re expecting heavy image use and are thus probably more equipped for it? Then I just use the direct link to the image in the link field of my post, and it shows up the same as if I’d uploaded here instead of as a link. Presumably you know that part though since you’ve been Imgur’ing, sorry.

It’s definitely been working out for me, for years now. I have two boyfriends, they get along well and also both date other people. There were a few growing pains of course. Overall though, smoother than expected!

It does have groups! And they’re even interoperable with Lemmy/PieFed/Mbin groups. The experience is definitely very Facebook like, and there are themes that make it even more so.

On the other hand, every instance I’ve ever been on has run into serious lag issues and/or collapsed entirely… Hoping that’s not universal or else gets fixed soon.

The gui installer was roughly about as simple as any other distro I’ve tried, and stuff generally seemed to work out of the box. There are more packages than one might expect from such a small distro too. Not sure I have any advice specific to Void really, although getting a custom bootloader onto a Chromebook was certainly a trip lol

While i definitely agree, none of this is a deal breaker for me. What is a deal breaker is this: I am on my third Friendica account now because the first 2 instances both started struggling and then collapsed. The one I’m on now is suddenly running very slow, just like the first 2 before the end. It seems to me like maybe they’re kinda hard to run?

I’m always soooo excited for native fediverse apps, because PWAs are annoying in a bunch of ways. But then it actually happens, and I remember that none of the cool themes will be in there 😅

I do it pretty much the same as you actually! It’s always kinda hard to tell what other people are doing though. Since my instance is kinda small, I barely see a tiny fraction of whatever total boosts/favorites a post has unless i click through to the orignal.

If i scroll far enough back in my saved posts, all of which I’ve upvoted, eventually i stop seeing the arrows be green anymore. However, if i click one again, it un upvotes it, indicating that my upvote had remained but the color had gone. Sounds pretty much like what you’re describing right?
