Not this time, though.
Picture is out of the “Struwelpeter”, which is not part of Grimm’s collections.

From old worn-out shoe to indestructible battleship - everything is possible!
Still remembering all those epic battles among the siblings on who gets to play the racing car… Good stuff!

7·15 days agoThanks! I was somewhat confused before reading the article, too.
I now still have to find out what a “DUI” is…

3·24 days agols there a mandatory number of driving lessons or would it be possible to just do the tests and get the license for £85?
E.g. for the rural kid that started driving agricultural equipment on private ground at age 5?

201·24 days agoHave to backpaddle, as you are right.
I now have read the article and the fees given in the heading actually refer only to the theoretical tests.
Got a different impression before based on the brief, as it also mentioned the practical test…

41·24 days agoBut unfortunately, that are not the only fees you have to pay.
Minimum pay is ~2500€ if you are lucky, to cover all the mandatory parts you need to get a license.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People who stick the apple logo on their car: Why?
2·1 month agoThat’s surprising.
Texas would have been the last place I would have expected someone to put something with a sexual context on their car, short of Afghanistan perhaps.
I am really surprised and wondering what other of my expectations might be wrong…

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People who stick the apple logo on their car: Why?
2·1 month agoYes, sure, the classic is also still around!
I took me quite some time until I figured out what it was supposed to be.
For a long time I actually thought it to be something political, as it looked a lot like the scar on Gorbachev’s head… 😆

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People who stick the apple logo on their car: Why?
2·1 month agoStickers on cars are not really common in many countries.
Besides the occasional “child on board” or local soccer club sticker, they are e.g. almost nonexistant here in Germany.
But Apple stickers *have* been a thing that deviated from that rule, so it stood out, a few years ago.

Europe@feddit.org•What are some of the best Christmas markets worth visiting in the EU? [AskEurope]English
13·1 month agoCadolzburg / Germany
It’s relatively tiny, but has a lot of unique stalls located in a largely intact medieval town centre with a huge castle directly attached.
Prefer this to nearby Nuremberg at any time!General recommendation:
Go to the markets in small historic towns.
They beat the big ones on mystic fairy-tale athmosphere alone…Another example for that:
Bernkastel-Kues / Germany
I don’t think that is the explanation.
More likely:
Linux Mint is based on the LTS variants of Ubuntu, so 26.04 LTS will threaten to make the current Mint base rapidly obsolete.
So the Mint team has hard times ahead switching to the new base.

Europe@feddit.org•Germany's Volkswagen loses €1 billion in single quarterEnglish
12·1 month agoIt seems to be even more complicated than what you described, as I just realized:
Porsche SE is only owning 31.4% of the Volkswagen AG (which in turn owns 75% of Porsche AG), but has 53.3% of the shareholder voting rights.
Financial constructs of huge corporations are strange…

Europe@feddit.org•Germany's Volkswagen loses €1 billion in single quarterEnglish
291·1 month agoWell, actually it is Porsche who is losing the billion €, as they surrender to their electric competitors and switched back to fossil fuels in a desperate move.
Important detail here, as most people probably don’t realize that Porsche belongs to Volkswagen.

No, Heinrich Hoffmann, a German psychiatrist in the mid 19th century.
Loved the Struwelpeter as a child btw. :-)
