Haha! Thank you for the explanation! I never looked into MicroOS, because I heard of Tumbleweed and wanted to give it a go since I tried one distro (it has been so long I can’t even remember right now) and didn’t like it too much.
Yeah, when things are working, and it might take a day or so to setup something else completely, I definitely understand your hesitation! :)
Hey there! Isn’t MicroOS for servers? It’s still openSUSE, but specifically for servers. I could be wrong though! :)
Yes! I’ve used quite a few of the most recommended for newbies distros, and none compare (in my experience, at least) to Tumbleweed, and that’s not even a “noob friendly” distro apparently!
Like you, I had issues when installing my new graphics card. Took a few days of rolling back before I found out the correct way to install their new “open-driver” variant. Been smooth sailing since, but I also haven’t zypper dup since then out of fear of it all going away again. :P
Lads and lassies and everything between, it is best to make a full snapshot of your working distro BEFORE doing anything crazy like installing new drivers. TRUST ME!
openSUSE Tumbleweed (and any other distros that take advantage of BTRFS and snapshots) is what made me love Linux.
I’ve always used Windows, but wanted to move to Linux as it is more in line with what I feel about computers, and openSUSE made that a reality for me. Fuck something up by doing what you thought was going to be a normal operational moment? No biggie! For example, sudo snapper rollback 333, and I’m back up and running after reboot. Has literally saved me and the distro a few times now.
Needless to say, I love Windows (for what it is, hate M$ though) but I am a full Linux convert now. When I log into Linux, it feels like home. When I log into Windows, it feels like someone else’s home. :P
Yes! And they also have an Everything (way better search program than Windows has EVER been) plugin that I’ve tweaked to include Everything’s results at the top since the index it does is exponentially better than Windows’ own. Highly recommend for those that want that two button search that has always found what I was looking for on my own computer.
Shoutout to KDE for their search function, KRunner?, as it is amazing and ready to go from the get go.

3·11 months agoopenSUSE Tumbleweed made me a full Linux convert. I have “messed up” quite a few times, since I’m still very much a Linux noob, but openSUSE gave me that real confidence in my setup that I now boot into Windows only for a program or game that won’t work with what I am needing at the moment, which is almost 10% of the time. Modding games is a hobby, and that’s still not as easy as it is in Windows. Come on Nexus Mods, you can do it! :'-)

373·1 year agoNo, seriously.
This mindset of, “If you don’t like to read pages of documentation to figure out how to do the thing you’re wanting to do, then maybe Linux isn’t for you?” Or the “god. How dare you ask such a STUPID question. You’re using Linux wrong and it probably isn’t for you. Go back to baby’s first OS!” Is the biggest gripe I have about using Linux.
Actual legit handy in my setup. I use some things on Windows but mainly drive openSUSE.
Being able to just pluck whatever files I need from my windows drive is pretty dope.

6·1 year agoYeah. I see some people trying to talk down to those of us who just call them fucking idiots. “Well, is that any way to get them to see your point of view? How does that help any?”
My brother in Christ, we’ve tried doing that for the LAST 8 YEARS. If they haven’t gotten any more wise since then, and in fact doubled down for round 2, what the fuck else can you do but call the dumbass duck a dumbass duck?!
MSN is also terrible about this shit. I turned off their new tab garbage and replaced it with Bonjourr right before the election because of all the misinformation it was showing. Crazy we just accept this shit man.
As for YouTube, this is very easy to verify. Sign out of YouTube > CTRL+F5 > look at the top viewed videos
You will see what garbage most of the populace sees when they go to YouTube without logging in. I believe this is the real reason they don’t care if people log in or not. They can push the narrative while seeming like they’re being good guys by allowing you to consume content “for free”.

Now I know why.
For what it is worth, I have Roku set up as a REGEX in my Pi-hole so for the most part, any of this nonsense is completely blocked on my Roku.
Needless to say, I shouldn’t have to do this shit with a device I paid for and mainly use for Plex streaming.

I was confused, as I just updated earlier today and my settings said I was still on the old version.
I’m excited for the upgrade to come to stable branch, at the least! :)

No. We said the same thing for the last 8 years, and people like you thumbed your nose at us like little children. Consequences of your actions.
