Straight forward disaster movie. Palatable for lots of people. It doesn’t do anything ground breaking, but that’s often not what I’m looking for in movies.
I like high budget camera work and lighting and don’t mind getting mad at characters when bad stuff happens.

pewter@lemmy.worldto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Trump given power to rename Greenland 'Red, White and Blueland' under new bill tabled by RepublicansEnglish12·2 months agoI’m not saying this as a joke, but I recently saw the movie Greenland and I’m confident this is all happening because he watched it.
mild spoilers
Main character is a man from his demographic. A presidential message is what’s supposed to save people. Greenland is where people go for safety. Main character cheated on his wife but it’s ok because he saved his family.
pewter@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•If you could choose who was president who would it be?8·2 months agoI think you’re thinking of VIKI from I, Robot.
A.I. Artificial Intelligence was the movie where Haley Joel Osment was a robot kid.
So is the argument now we should act like China?
Unironically, I think most people who are going to Red Note might think so.

pewter@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are modern LLMs closer to AGI or next word predictor? Where do they fall in this graph with 10 on x-axis being human intelligence.1·7 months agoThey are programmatically token predictors. It will never be “closer” to intelligence for that very reason. The broader question should be, “can a token predictor simulate intelligence?”
what’s easier? Convincing everyone you know to download signal or whatsapp or matrix or whatever or
having that built into the text app[convincing everyone to buy the same phone].FTFY
When presented this way, the choice is very different.

You get more space, there’s no TSA, you don’t get charged for bringing luggage, you can carry on liquids, you get leg room, the wifi is decent.
But if I’m traveling a really far distance… For example, if I’m going from California to New York I’d rather go by plane. Going by train for that seems to be pretty horrible. America is in desperate need of a ground transportation that can get from California to New York quickly.

I’ve been judging it on their decisions and their dissents. There have been non-unanimous cases for years where there have been bizarre dissents that could have changed the country if any specific president had appointed more judges.
Primaries are also weird because depending on what state you live in the election is often decided before you even get to vote. Imagine living in a state as big as California and having no impact on the primary.
If the general election can be one day maybe so can the primary.
pewter@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Okay, Biden isn’t popular. But his policies sure are.61·10 months agoHot take: that crime bill attack was always an interesting one to me.
In Hillary’s election she got heavily criticized for supporting it while non-conservatives supported it, Biden wrote it, Bill Clinton signed it, Bernie Sanders voted for it. I was somewhat surprised this election when people actually remembered that Biden wrote it at all. I didn’t hear much about it in 2020.

If you have blackened lungs on the cigarette packaging I can’t imagine choosing to smoke.
On social media, you basically have to destroy my experience for me to stop using it in the same way. All effective options are terrible: ads, microtransactions, auto-playing unexpected sounds, nonresponsive interfaces.
