That Google is attacking custom ROMs should tell you anything you need to know. Definitely continue using ROMs as long as possible and pray to holy GNU that linux on mobile will attain day to day usability until that fails. It’s actually looking pretty promising on that front!
Families exist. I’m the “IT guy” for 3 people using laptops
Switzerland has done a 180 on that. A new amendment would require all VPN services, messaging apps, and social networks to identify and retain user data.
I honestly don’t care how difficult it is,
only if (…) there are any fucking corporate shenanigans that intentionally make it harder.
Verbatim quote ya doofus
So like Linux has been doing for years?
Can you explain why you would think Steam is so bad? I would argue they’re pretty fair, especially with the option to buy steam cards for cash to not disclose your personal data. Does the client do some unsavory shit?
There’s nothing to laugh about. The maniacally evil thing about recall is, that it doesn’t matter what you do to keep your devices clean. If you interact with someone who doesn’t keep his devices clean, which is 100% of us, you’re on recall
I don’t know anything about HMD so I can’t add to that. However I’d like to correct you regarding the headphone jack. The people that like it so much are generally privacy enthusiasts. Leaving your Bluetooth on makes you easily trackable. Using USB-C headphones helps in that regard but expediates wear and tear on the port by a lot and often makes the phone unusable a lot quicker, because you obviously need it for charging. Audio jacks generally have very low wear and tear. Hope that helps you understand we’re not crazed evangilists hanging on to the past for the sake of it.
I’ve gotten this advice a bajillion times. It’s not the worst advice, but the Pixels just aren’t very good. They lack basic hardware prerequisites like an sd card slot and audio jack (which the Brax3 would have).

Show me a decent phone with SD card slot, replacable battery and a headphone jack I can install Graphene on and I’m set!
One of the reasons I was excited for the Brax3 was the headphone jack. Pixels don’t have them anymore
Thanks, that’s helpful
I’m pretty happy with them. Pricing is fair and their mission seems trustworthy. They have a decent cli client that I use to automate my backups with.
I agree with your point but you mentioned the services that are literally the hardest to find alternatives for. Need to use photoshop professionally, good luck getting around adobe. Sys admin only allows microsoft because he doesn’t want to manage a bazillion different setups, get used to windows buddy. I could go on with examples…
Getting rid of those predatory megacorps is worth the fight, but it’s a fight. And it’s not getting easier just by calling it easy.
Well, it’s not like email is a particularly private protocol to begin with. Proton has PGP encryption under the hood for proton to proton communication. But proton to whatever is not more private than using your hosters mail service.
I’m very happy with librewolf on desktop and ironfox on mobile
I use filen.io as a web drive. Can recommend
Man I’m glad I got done with the “I want to meet new people” part of my life before social platforms became inevitable. As far as I know nowadays it’s either friends or privacy. Can’t have both
