I’ve only used British-English and it’s Wastebin for me.
I mean it also depends on the gamemodes you play?
Kind of the reason I preferred playing Free for All over Team Deathmatch on Call of Duty, because if I lost, all I had to blame was myself and not the amoebas on my team giving the other team free points by only doing 360s off the crane for the whole game.
Also might be why I fell out of love with Battlefield after BF1, The game itself was great (wish I could still play it on Linux…) but you could tell there were a lot of new comers to the franchise who just ignored all the objective and teamplay aspects. I still find decent squad play on BF4 & 3 to this day.
I find it funny how common menu replacements are on Windows nowadays. I used to run ClassicShell/OpenShell back when I used Windows 10, but I was the odd one and no one else I talked to even knew about it.
Now I know more than a handful of people who daily drive RetroBar or something similar on Windows 11. Even if they’re not the type of person who typically customize their setups. Guess that’s just a sign of how bad M$ has been screwing up their UX design lately.
When I was first looking into Linux I asked the only friend I knew who used it and he unironically recommended me Arch…
A year later I actually gave Arch a try, but by then he apparently hated Arch and switched to Gentoo and I stopped asking him for advice at that point.
I already had a strong reaction when the term ‘Influencer’ popped up. At first it sounded like a marketing term that felt more like an insult to label someone as.
Then people started proudly proclaiming themselves Influencers and it’s only gotten worse since…
Just without the ridiculous tie.
The Simpsons.
There’s something new to see every time! I’ve only just got back into watching the early seasons again recently.
I’ve been using DDG since 2016 and never felt it was worse in terms of “search quality” than Google.
Especially nowadays I hear friends whine near weekly about Google, but it’s still somehow “better than DDG”.
Honestly people just make excuses not to change what they’re use to. Even if what they’re used to has changed around them for the worse.
My only real complain I have is I wish ‘search by date range’ was less finicky use and also worked in the image tab like it does in Google images.
If you still like the workflow of VS Code and just want it without the Microsoft Ai and spyware crap, Then you got Vscodium.
It’s basically the open-source code of VS Code compiled without the invasive M$ stuff.
It’s not really an issue for the end user. But it’s basically made for companies to take advantage of free hobbyist developers without needing to give anything back in return.
So if you’re the kind of person who runs to foss software to get away from corporate tech bull, having a license that benefits companies more than users just kinda feels scummy.
My ex had one of them RGB everything rainbow gamer PCs.
Windows would auto boot to update in the middle of the night and turn the whole apartment into a rave…
Lately it’s been sifting through IMDB collections to find movies to watch.
That or I check the groups I’m in to see what I’m late to the party on now.
I was surprised how many co-workers my age and younger (GenZ) don’t even own a laptop let alone a desktop.
I know it was becoming more niche, but didn’t expect it to happen that fast…
This one ^
The physical comedy alone is gold, Also you won’t leave their parents dealing with the nightmares like some of these movies…unless they really fear someone breaking in to piss on their rug.
I’m older GenZ “Zillennial”?
What in particular makes you think there’s not many of us on here? Not like Lemmy makes you state your age on your account.
Agree it looked more red to me, but light enough I get it if people remember it being pink.
It’s a reference to a scene in The Matrix.
It’s definitely not just a Lemmy thing just any site that grows a user base.
I kind off think of it like the difference between talking to random people at a local hobby space vs a national convention. Sure you’re gonna still find people with shared interests but you got more people coming in with an agenda or chip on their shoulder, Or just general trolls who target larger groups because it’s more people to get a rise out of.
But you’d have to consult some sociologist or someone for a in-depth factual answer, I’ve just been on a lot of random sites/forums over the years.
Honestly Lemmy has handled it’s growth a lot better than most places online I’ve seen. I’d say people on here are pretty raw but not actively spiteful (mostly), which I very much vibe with.
My personal experience has been hit n miss.
Was using one 4TB Seagate for 11 years then bought a newer model to replace it since I thought it was gonna die any day. That new one died within 6 months. The old one still works although I don’t use it for for anything important now.
‘But I got nothing to hide!’
