That’s the only thing I can think to answer your question. There are some problems that are best solved with other tools, like text parsing for example you might want to call out to some code written in a functional language.

This is so obvious that I am glad someone said it, because it made me realise conservatives are basically implying that it happens constantly.

Don’t forget, a lot of the early free trade, free press rhetoric was because the US stood to benefit the most from it. Of course the country with mass printing technology wants everyone to be able to buy their printed propaganda. Do they want to share the technology? Not so much.

It’s true tho… for some new users. If the new user wants to learn linux fundamentals, there’s no better way than hand installing Gentoo or Arch. Ideally on a second PC and using it as a home server.

Now if they just want an alternative OS for their main PC, yeah, go for something else.

Addictive is right. I’m in the process of building myself a smart mailbox with a couple proximity sensors and an ESP32. It’s been quite the undertaking, and quite expensive if you count the tools I bought for the project.

I feel like America’s dominance has a lot more to do with its size (geographically and population-wise), access to natural resources, and coming late into WW2.

I use the ebuild on Gentoo, combined with some custom nginx config, and a dedicated php-fpm instance just for Nextcloud. Never tried using any of the Docker packages for it so I can’t comment on those.

Updates involve merging the new package and running webapp-config to link the files into place, running occ upgrade, and refreshing ownership of the php files. Never had a serious problem with it.

That’s something, but isn’t half the benefit meant to be storing them in the TPM? Also, that won’t help if you’re logging into a game or app, surely? Would love to be wrong on that, of course.
