Remember the guy at Autozone who stood there insisting your car needs four spark plugs, even after you told him you have a V6? Because “the computer says so right here”?
I wonder what even the non-schizophrenic ones will do with AI.

Yeah, forums exist but they have a real hard time growing their userbase these days. It’s just more deliberate to visit a particular forum’s website, then usually click on a subforum, then look at a thread, and then see its contents. Then you might be on page 37 of a thread and people are all discussing that post from page 33. It’s slow compared to something like Reddit/Lemmy or Xitter style sites that put the content right in your face without having to look around.
I’m prone to falling for this myself even as I lament forums growing quiet. But I guess the best thing to do is link directly to forum threads from other social media and hope enough users trickle in.
What I REALLY hate is Discord servers replacing forums for things like video game FAQs and it’s really hard to find the latest announcement, bug workaround, or whatever without butting into the conversation and asking (you’re the 48th person to ask today and people are a little annoyed).
Been on kiwi farms. There is no “we’re swatting these guys” thread. And there is a very detailed and well-cited thread doxxing torswats and documenting and archiving the attempt to tie their actions to KF. You literally can just go read it. Please do. The Torswats/Alan Winston thread.
No amount of “uhhhhh they’re untrustworthy and not all of them are left wing” is sufficient to beat the clear documentation. Because of his arrest, trial, and conviction, much of what is in the thread can also be verified by law enforcement sources. If you believe otherwise, you are a victim of internet misinformation.
And yes, I still call bullshit on the made-up musk Nazi salute from the same political machine that brought us “everyone making Nazi salutes at the Palestine protests is fine, actually” as well as “if you sit at a table with a Nazi, then you’re a Nazi”.
They don’t swat people. Mass swatter Torswats (which turned out to be a team of a few people) tried to blame it on them for a little bit, but was ultimately caught.

I hope the poor guy is doing okay with one hind leg. :(
More like Facebook worked overtime to tip the 2020 election towards Biden and Trump is still mad about it.
Well, FOIA requests revealed Facebook was extremely cooperative with both enacting government censorship requests, and keeping them secret, when those same censorship requests would have been utterly illegal if they were an official order, so…
Some deal like “You give us control over information and we leave your monopoly alone”, even unspoken, seems to be the gist of it.

I don’t understand why Linux users are like this.
I, too, first heard this quote from Adam on Mythbusters as a child. But, I’m pretty sure I also heard it was said first by some philosopher.
I would later be informed that “some philosopher” was the 1984 film The Dungeon Master.
Only apparently that was not the first, and it was said in a 1974 episode of Doctor Who. Well, someone on Reddit said that, and linked to this WikiQuote page but on that page it also says it’s from The Dungeon master.
So, I don’t know what to believe any more, and I still hope it was actually an obscure lost quote of Rene Magritte or something because in my head it would just make sense.
Discord got big in online gaming because they offered a VOIP and text chat browser cliemt. Just copy or type the short link and you’re in in a minute. They also did free hosting which was huge.
Compared to Teamspeak or Ventrilo, literally just eliminating the steps of downloading a client, installing it, and typing in an IP address caused them to explode overnight. Also you could “host” without changing router settings (most kids/students have to ask their parents or jump through hoops for this).
Technically there was stuff like Skype but that never had the convenient team speak style chat rooms to drop in and out of freely.
Within months of suddenly getting popular, discord had a huge userbase that everybody was using already, and that momentum got us to the point where in some aspects its even replacing the role of wiki’s and forums even though its terrible at it.

And they killed most of their Jewish population! Wait…

Missed opportunity for vtubers

We have the man who wrote those words expanding upon them to say what he meant, and you’re still saying “actually he meant something else.”
Fun fact: It’s based directly on the implementation seen in “DDOS Retarding by Kiwi Farms” which wasn’t absolutely the original idea for cryptographic ddos filtering but the first to popularize and seriously rely on it live service.
Also I think it might be a wolf girl because it’s called “Anubis” but I dunno. Anyway, I think it would be a lot funnier if everyone called it “DDOS retarding” but that’s just me.
