It’s probably still better to get ahead of it early, since the sanctions are clearly a warning sign

Really more of a stockade at that point
I mean, you say “micro-perspective” but the book still opens on “biggest massacre in European history”, doesn’t it? idk, it doesn’t seem very phenomenological 2 me
Iowa writers workshop brain worms
Could you explain the reference? I don’t know what Iowa writers’ workshop is referring to or what its brainworms are.
Was it, though? Consider the effects of the nuclear fallout in the long-term, or does that fall into “crimes against humanity” because it happens after the war?
CW: graphic brutality of all kinds: https://witoldniesluchowski.com/greatest-massacre-in-the-european-history/
Just picked an early source for convenience, the author sneaks in a jab at the Soviets that I obviously find disgusting for reasons that should be obvious to anyone who knows what would happen to “the Russians” soon after the events described.
idk, I’m inclined to say that Vonnegut was a significant part of the cultural basis for the hysteria around it, and considering that he calls it “the biggest massacre in European history” when there were multiple massacres committed by the Nazis that were greater (e.g. the annihilation of Warsaw) is pretty distasteful.
To a credulous audience, an effective way to open a book, but that’s as much credit as I can give it.
To hear out the other side, obviously the allies seeking to rehabilitate Nazis before the bodies had even cooled in the Nuremberg gallows was a bigger contribution to the history of Aggrieved Fascists than any novel, but on the other hand hearing out the other side seems to be more than Vonnegut bothered with before regurgitating Nazi propaganda.

To be clear, I was being kind of sarcastic in an attempt to make the point that people just aren’t saying anything coherent when they say things like that they admire Gorbachev’s politics, but I do appreciate your insights on German politics.
It’s wild how people admire the guy who directly created the path of immediate destruction of his own fucking country, which was then replaced by a country that those same people all hate.
idk, like are they saying they want to set Germany up to be destroyed and replaced by a wildly more right country? Just say your politics are similar to Hindenburg’s then!
I think the Christian party isn’t as theocratic as something named that way would be in America, just as the social democrats aren’t very impressively socdem [even as far as that goes]. They are old names that reflect the relative alignment of these parties, such as the nominally Christian party being more conservative, but they aren’t a clear statement of values.
People who say “Well I’m Muslim and it bothers me that Biden supports Israel so I won’t vote for him” have to be completely out of touch with reality or are completely fake
“If you aren’t voting for me, you’re not Muslim, Jack”
This isn’t Facebook or Reddit
Your instance is full of ledditors, where do you get off saying this?
I do especially appreciate that the message of the protests is overwhelmingly oriented around the actual victims in Palestine and not the uwu IDF soldiers getting owned, unlike with thwir respjse to Vietnam where the Vietnamese were barely a concern.
This is disingenuous, there is legislation in place that prevents the government from negotiating the price of medicine, keeping it wildly inflated compared to other countries. The US effectively isn’t doing social spending with that margin* but just laundering money to health insurance companies, medicine manufacturers, and patent barons.
*3 to 10 times the cost you see in other countries is the common range, I think, though in individual cases it gets much higher and there are some ~1:1 prices.
That’s mainly in the form of compound words, so it isn’t exactly subtle
But the Nazis aren’t getting shut down, and we have a Dem president already. Clearly something other than red/blue elections are needed to shut Nazis down, as history hopefully helps demonstrate.
I got that too. I feel like it’s just what they do for answers that are broadly Leftist + hates Dems
