  • Most cars have an electro-mechanical lock; with a physical connection between the interior door pull and the lock that pulls the bolt back if you’re trying to get out.

This is an industry standard safety feature, and has been for decades.

Tesla, in their infinite TechBro Douchiness decided they knew better than the entire car industry and took that out. Their locked are electrically activated.

    Also?

Because of the risk of electrocution, and fires caused by snorts, Teslas turn off the power if it detects a crash.

Fortunately, regulations require that cars sold in the US have a mechanical release somewhere accessible from the inside.

Unfortunately for Tesla drivers, Musk doesn’t care about their customers dying in their cars and have opted to make it both non-obvious as to where it is, and frequently actually-hard to activate in an emergency.

This is why a few people have died inside Tesla car fires- being unable to get out.

The response by consumers is for them to add pull-thingies to make it obvious and simple. Like most models, it’s hidden under panels or carpet. Now imagine removing those panels when you’re freaking out because your car is on fire and doing something you’ve almost certainly never practiced.

(This lack of safety conscious design is one of the biggest reasons I will never drive a Tesla.)

  • keep in mind, that Onan, levirate marriages weren’t about love or anything like that.

Like most (all?) cultures at the time, women were property, and couldn’t own property.

Technically, Er’s firstborn son would have inherited everything and then “taken care of” everyone else. Or rather, Tamar, would, on the son’s behalf. but Er got smote by god for being a particular kind of dick before he had a first born son.

So in typical religious fruitcake fashion, instead of fixing the original problem- that Tamar had no way of inheriting anything or supporting her self- they decided the obvious solution was for the brother-in-law to get the widow pregnant.

of course Tamar was the same age as the third brother; who needed to grow up a bit before she could marry him… (ew, right?) so instead she gets sent back to her own family and- eventually- becomes a camp follower of Judah’s… and, ah. yeah.

  • revolves around? no. I don’t think that at all.

but I do know that roughly 28% of annual contributions come from the US, that the US is fourth on the list of ‘most Catholics’ by total numbers and the vatican would be pretty stupid to ignore those two points. and that is not even coming close to the question of corruption or doctrine.

Are they going to completely capitulate? probably not, but that doesn’t mean there’s no influence, either. Further, the vatican still opposes trans lifestyles doctrinaly, and Francis was the first pope to emphasize pastoral care over doctrine. It would not be difficult to imagine that conservative voices push back against that shift.

Thus I’m concerned that the next guy won’t be as supportive of trans as Francis was. Remember, Francis ruffled more than a few feathers with his progressiveness, not just american bishops (who are straight up assholes.)
