Probably The Longest Day. It was my favourite movie as a kid, because I was very into World War 2 back then. My sister can recite all lines in The Lion King, for me that’s with The Longest Day.
I like the delivery of the lines, the acting and the shots. There’s a really impressive single shot from above, where masses of Brits (I think) fight through a French town. There’s lots of explosions and a bridge which is destroyed. All one shot, really impressive especially for the time (I think). I also like that it’s not a purely English spoken film. I don’t watch movies in which ze Germans speak English, sorry. This is a really long movie though, three hours.
Another pick might be Coming out. Not a very good film I think, but I watched it quite a lot when I was younger. It’s an openly queer film made in the GDR and therefore already very special. Even more so as it had its premiere on the very night the Berlin Wall fell.
It’s about a guy who meets a girl and goes out with her, ends up moving in. Then, he randomly enters a gay bar and gets into the whole cruising thing. Then he finds a guy for real, but he still has his girlfriend. This goes wrong, of course. Interesting is that, near the end, an elder in the bar tells him that he was a loyal member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD, pre-war), but that didn’t help him as a gay guy. Now, it doesn’t matter if you’re jewish or whatever - but if you’re gay, people still hate you.

At least he can’t be harassed by German politicians and extremists anymore.

Using humans like robots, what a wonderful idea!

If this is the best that can be mustered, that’s just painful.
That’s not to say the Dutch position wasn’t even more pathetic. They wanted to wear a so-called rainbow captain’s armband which didn’t even actually depict a rainbow, but they were too afraid to do even this over potentially getting a yellow card.

This is so fucking painful. I hope they themselves didn’t believe they were actually making some ‘powerful statement’.

I have some room under my bed, feel free to PM me.

Never. I live in a city with proper public transport, and I live close enough to the city center that I can easily walk there, or go by bike if I prefer.
I am considering getting my driving license, though. It’s useful for certain jobs, but it’s really expensive.

I’d have guessed emperor Wilhelm II, but it seems to just be a German officer.

Great choice. I love his pictures, they look so good, it’s as if he had traveled back in time with a digital camera.

L’anglais d’Irlande est tres beaux ! Mais, ma français n’est pas beaux…

Bûter, brea en griene tsiis!

So do Americans. Hence why ‘politics’ and ‘news’ on .world by default are American politics and news.
Even the community intended for non-American world news is in practice flooded with American news anyway.

We’re not Americans, why the fuck should we care? I care about America potentially going to war with us, I don’t whatsoever that their current figurehead is a pedosexual.

I don’t give a flying fuck about US internal problems.

Mostly it’s just really weird living in non-America seeing non-Americans wearing American flags.
I’d love German becoming the lingua franca and official language. I much prefer it over English.
But, oh well. It’s not like a lingua franca can be decided upon. It just ends up becoming one (due to necessity and the power of its speakers). There’s really no reason any other language would take over from English at the moment.
I use Dutch, because I’m one of the three Dutchmen that actually likes his language and I don’t want to see English all day.
