Prepotente has definitely had his moments but the way the A.I has transitioned slowly from a plot advancement, narrative and exposition tool into a full blown “Whats IT going to do?” character is one of my favorite things about the series.
I love the series and yeah its definitely not for everyone but I would say finish book one. Its a very unique flavour. I cant think of another “If you like that then you have to read DCC”
To be fair, its really hard to explain to people why its good. Like imagine the inverse of trying to sell someone on seeing John Wick by describing the plot. “Theres a retired assassin and some gangster kills his dog and then he goes on a rampage”. DCC ping-pongs around from dick jokes to proper emotional torment to obscene violence and back to dick jokes so well while not being able to stick to a genre worth a damn that any attempt to decribe it will sound like a delusional fever dream.
Quasar is good but by the end of book 8, the A.I is low key becoming the best character.
I second the beater cars. Both of mine combined cost less than the first year depreciation on an average brand new family car.
But it definitely requires a skillset, mindset and tool set. Its not a lifestyle for everyone.

The idea is to have an RPG that makes you PUSH every second you’re on the battlefield. No Leroy Jenkins behavior, no grinding low xp mobs for hour after hour day after day.
F2P Diablo style mmorpg with a twist. Each year starts a new season. $20 buys you a character for the year, pick your own class, skills, stats and starting gear. Punishingly difficult, permadeath, maximum playtime of 30 hrs a month, META adjustments on the fly by devs every month. Play like a risk averse little bitch? Serious XP penalty. Get overconfident and die? Thats it your season is done. Why would you play that? SERIOUS prize money on the line for the characters that make the end game.
Theres free characters and no playtime limit on those but you get a randomly generated character with slower progression and a greatly reduced prize pool for the characters that go the distance.
Its simultaneously harder to fuck up at the same time.
