  • Backpacking. I have a big plastic bin filled with equipment that I decided to go another direction with.

But makers are the kings of hobby hoarding, just look at Adam Savage. He has parts for things he hasn’t even thought of building. He has a plethora of tools that overlap entirely just because the set of tools is closer to a given work aspect. Walls of bins with various degrees of filled because he bought 100 of something a decade ago that may have a future use.

  • Without knowing why he did what he did, we can speculate, I can not judge him for his actions.

I can make assumptions, as many have done, as to why he felt it justified to take the life of another.

If we are to assume the shooter to be sound of mind and logic, we can only assume his actions to have been taken in a just morality.

He must have known that killing one man could never right or prevent the wrongs he experienced. He didn’t kill someone irrefutably innocent. He didn’t kill a random person. He didn’t kill the messenger. He killed the person at the top to send a message. Points off for his message not being excruciatingly clear in motive. Points for his execution, thus far.

He scared people of a similar position to try and wipe their names from the internet, lol they don’t know how the internet works. They are scared, but they will need to be more scared into correcting the wrong that the shooter experienced. They have operated with the feeling of impunity from the consequences of their actions. If one death can correct the course of things, that death is justified. Unfortunately, we do not live in a just world.

If his, or other’s ambitions are greater, there can be a horrible justice done in this world if those in power are unwilling to do what is right.

I don’t want another person to die when they can be saved, but I don’t cry for a life lost to save many more.

Profit < people. If you feel otherwise, you deserve a one gun salute.

Don’t kill people and don’t be a dick, but I wouldn’t see or say a damn thing if you do the right thing in the wrong way.

  • You want earplugs that dampen above a certain threshold. That rules out most earplugs because they always dampen all sound.

Surefire EP3s have a removable plug that allows for dampening below 85db, but will take them up to 24NRR with the plug in. I don’t know if they actually rate the unplugged NRR, from what I remember it was 16-18 when I got mine. Don’t think you can swap protection levels easily, you practically have to take them out to plug them. You do also need to replace them once or twice a year. Surefire has others of a similar design that you may want to look into as well, I am only personally familiar with the EP3s.

Loops has caught my eye as a possible option to go to instead of EP3s, but I haven’t bit the bullet on them.

  • Amazon is a marketplace.

If you go to the flea market and buy a laptop that is bad, does that mean everybody selling laptops at the flea market is selling a bad product?

There are solid sellers on Amazon and there are shady scam sellers on Amazon.

My advice for your best chances of buying what you are expecting to buy is to go through an authorized reseller of the laptop you are looking for. I bought my last laptop from Newegg and got what I paid for.

  • I would buy up as many apartments as possible and lower the rent below market value, this driving other landlords to compete. Since they could not maintain a “sustainable” business model with their profit driven mindset, they would sell and I would buy. I would still seek a modest profit, which would be rolled into further acquisitions to further infect the market with sanity. It would be a McDonald’s or Walmart approach to housing, positive effect by volume and low margins, but actually provide an undeniably good product.

I would also work with local businesses to offer discounts to residents of the apartments and employees of other businesses that also wish to partner, with the end goal of creating incentive to shop local and increase foot traffic, and therefore profits for those small businesses.

I would find residents who would be interested in starting a business, startup costs covered by my organization, and outcompetes with businesses who do not wish to be our partner. I would endeavor to provide free childcare and animal daycare/boarding. Ideally a pseudo private and free school system could be established to further promote the ideals of the community. Ideally provide free therapy. Ideally offer scholarships to traditional higher education or trade schools. Ideally create a system to help homeless people get back on their feet.

Overall the end goal would be to keep as much money within the local economy and maintain businesses that embody the values which create a healthy local economy, lower the costs of living, and restore the community to a healthy social state.

Or maybe I’ll just start a sex cult in the woods.

  • Have you talked to her about how she feels about her situation? Or have you projected your feelings about the situation if you were in her shoes?

A single mom with multiple kids might enjoy a quiet house all to herself, even if it is a holiday where you are expected to want to be with family.

BIL does have the right to not want a stranger coming over for a family holiday. There is the whole “nobody should be alone on the holidays” aspect that not everyone holds in the highest regard.
