Cavemanfreak@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•Google decides it won't comply with EU fact-checking lawEnglish1·3 months agoYeah, I definitely misread the article, my bad! I doubt the EU will let it stand when it’s enacted.
Cavemanfreak@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•Google decides it won't comply with EU fact-checking lawEnglish11·3 months agoIt isn’t law yet though, and it is the current iteration that Google won’t follow. We have yet to see how they will react if it actually becomes law. My guess is that they will, begrudgingly, bend the knee.
Cavemanfreak@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•Google Maps is over! The tech giant complies with EU orders to remove navigation services from search resultsEnglish91·4 months agoI suppose search engines should ask you which maps provider you want and then show results based on that.
Google could have done that, but they chose to go this router to inconvenience users, so that they then could blame the EU for this.

Cavemanfreak@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•Why Google Search is Falling Apart.English4·6 months agoHeh, I do have link previews on, and I’ll never forget XcQ. But the joke is on you, I’ll always listen to that banger!
Cavemanfreak@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•Why Google Search is Falling Apart.English82·6 months agoNot really related, but I believe this is the first time I’ve seen an emoji as a link 🤯
I assume so, but I’m not sure where. I’ll have to Google it later
Also based in the EU, and mine were turned on
We got to do something simular in uni. We modeled the CPU in VHDL and had to set up our own language, then we were to program a game for it. One of the most fun and interesting courses we got to do!
Cavemanfreak@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•How Much Energy Would It Take to Pull Carbon Dioxide out of the Air?English3·11 months agoI don’t know much about the technology, so I can’t comment on that. But I don’t really see politicians pushing for this, at least not succesfully. There are too many rightwing obstructionists in most Western governments right now…
Cavemanfreak@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•How Much Energy Would It Take to Pull Carbon Dioxide out of the Air?English8·11 months agoIt’s way less than that. 2.39x10^20 is around 4% of 5.8x10^21. Not even close to “almost as much”. Looks like the authors don’t know their powers of 10. So if we dedicate 5% of the total energy for one year it could theoretically be done.
Cavemanfreak@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•How Much Energy Would It Take to Pull Carbon Dioxide out of the Air?English15·11 months agoYep, it’s close to 4% of the total. Not really “almost as much”.
Sure, but it also only counts book time. If you listen 2x it’s only 7.5 hours.
Nah, what’s worse is that it’s only 15(!) hours per month!

Cavemanfreak@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•Instagram's unskippable ads test causes outrage among usersEnglish2·11 months agoHave you tried just looking at “Following”? That shows everything in chronological order, without ads. Lets me quickly see what’s new, and then close the app. I don’t discover many new recipes anymore, but that’s a price I’m willing to pay.
At least it gave credit to a reddit user when it suggested to a suicidal person that they could jump from the Golden Gate Bridge!
That sank into a crater. So we built a third one. That burned down, fell over, and then sank into a crater. But the fourth one stayed up. And that’s what you’re going to get, Lad, the strongest spacecraft on all of the Moon.
