Not a super high bar, tbf. Y’all’s overton window is considerably to the left of ours. Your point is solid, though, I think, in that cultural identity is a much better predictor of personal politics than religion.

It’s a pretty on-the-nose username, given that they’re basically just transcribing Fox News segments. In a saner world, this would be a parody account.
Of course Trump’s delusional, but this guy’s a fucking war hawk piece of shit.
You wouldn’t download a baby?!
Yeah, I only looked it up because I remembered being charged for dropping off a broken TV at a Texas location.
It looks like they’ll take certain items free, while others (like non-Best Buy branded televisions) you have to pay them to recycle. In California there’s no charge for store drop-off; I imagine because they have a dedicated e-waste recycling fee.
I mean, it’s just describing pure schadenfreude. It doesn’t speak to how deserving the victim is. It could easily be interpreted as a defense of Trump, in this context. Given the upvotes, though, I don’t think that’s where people are going with it.
Happy to see that nearly all the biggest Lemmy instances are blocking it, with the glaring exception of lemmy.world, which is the largest by far. lemmy.world is to lemmy as AOL was to the early internet—the default bucket for those who don’t know any better.
Yeah, social media algorithms are doing a lot of damage. I wish there was more general awareness of this. Based on personal experience, I think many people actually like being fed relevant content, and are blind to the consequences. I think Lemmy is great, because you have to curate your own feed, but many people would never use it for that very reason. I don’t know what the solution is.
What I’d like to know is if any episode of Popeye took place on a Tuesday. Was Wimpy ever paying up for all those burgers? It may be an apt comparison despite their contrasting levels of spelling ability. Then again, Bluto seems like the more obvious Trump analog.

I guess it is just some nerdy dude. At first glance, I took it for Sue Perkins.
I really don’t see these $3500 VR goggles (or any other goggles) being widely—or hell, even narrowly—adopted as a TV replacement. There are frankly an exhausting number of reasons why not. For one, it would only make sense for those who exclusively use their TV alone. That rules out the vast majority of television owners right off the bat.
Nobody thinks Biden is an ideal candidate. Most Democrats didn’t want him 4 years ago, but every other candidate dropped out and endorsed him in order to prevent Sanders from getting the nomination. Not that Bernie would be the best candidate either in 2024, given his age; the point is we didn’t want Biden, but we’re stuck with him now.
No sitting president has ever lost their party’s primary. What’s more—and not surprisingly—the ones that have faced significant primary challenges have gone on to lose in the general. If a president wants to run again, the party isn’t going to stop him, and Biden has long since made that decision.
Welp, I guess we’ll see what develops. Good luck to you.
Bush did not win the popular vote in 2000, although the fact that he actually did in 2004 is a telling indictment of the electorate, the DNC, and John Kerry. Nonetheless, Republicans are facing increasing demographic challenges, and we have seen that their response has not been to adopt more popular policy positions, but instead work to dismantle democracy.
Trump was never a Republican, just a populist that co-opted the GOP, and has completely subverted it to his will. They don’t have anyone else like him—just pale imitations—and when he’s gone, the party will be split between the traditionalist corporate cronies, and those competing to be the most mask-off fascist to appeal to the magats. A lot of money is going to flow to the corporatists who gravitate toward the pre-Trump status quo, but I think they’ve gone too far at this point to really revert to that. There’s at least a chance it will divide the party enough to break it.
Also, I’d stipulate that regardless of popular support, they remain morally and intellectually pathetic.
This is true, but I’d be willing to bet that a strong majority of Texas citizens consider themselves to be Americans first, not Texans. Call me complacent on this issue, I just don’t think it has legs. I’m not going to waste energy worrying about it.
It remains to be seen whether anyone but Trump can really bring all the morons to the yard. I have a hard time envisioning any of the current GOP bench—including Abbott—succeeding on a national stage, post-Trump. They’re all such pathetic toadies.
I’m pretty sure it’s a big truck, that you can just dump things on.
