I think this song was also featured at the end of the movie Rat Race.

I’ve seen yard signs related to data center push back near me. It’s anecdotal, but I’ve heard others speak about the cameras around here in negative ways (it was at a haircut!). It seems subdued, but I suspect there’s much more on people’s minds, they just aren’t letting it be known.

That’s good to hear some items have returned. I also wonder about things like relistings, if items have or will get moved around. Good discussion!

This led to a lot of good discussion around various places to buy digital music. My comment wasn’t so much drm focused as it was about licenses being removed. I’ve encountered that on Qobuz actually. Not many, but a few items are no longer available to be downloaded. I have already downloaded the files when I purchased the music, so that’s certainly something different than a movie or game that can’t be downloaded and used as such. That’s all, just the fact that the license can still be removed.

Digital music for purchase as well.

That’s a good example. You’ve sold me on the hope!

Thanks for following up. I appreciate all your interest (and the links)!! I’ve put it on the back burner for now, but I hope to look at it again sometime.

Yep. Nav works just fine (though the maps are a little out of date in some areas). It’s just the date that won’t set itself anymore. The date and time display are separate from the nav screen, for what that’s worth.

I’d be out of my mind, too, if the time was off. Luckily, I can set the time. It’s just the date that’s fully auto / out of my hands.

Thank you for your input. That might be a bit beyond me at this point, but I’ll keep it in mind.

I was told it has something to do with Microsoft SYNC / GPS. There were some forum posts, too, about it but nothing that lead to a fix. I may try to update the system again in the future (it’s been several years since the last), but my understanding is that it’s not a fix on my end or one that can be done at all.

The date actually reset back to probably the earliest date it had and is continuing on from there. Fun… Lol. Again, thanks for your concern!

To add, my vehicle (2011) has its date display (as in the date & time) no longer accurate because it’s somehow integrated with the GPS, which has since stopped updating the date, and cannot be set manually. I now keep a little clock in my car that has the date on it to make up for the loss. It’s not that big of a deal compared to what others have mentioned, but it was still a shock to me when I found it.

Thanks for the update

I believe Ford has the f150 lightning, an ev version. I don’t know how it’s been doing though.

Holtzman describes himself as “a philosopher and data scientist who writes about quantitative propaganda and scientistic rhetoric,” and he often does so at his science & Power newsletter. His peer-reviewed work has been published in places like the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and The American Journal of Bioethics. He had also heard the oft-repeated suggestion that the data center protest movement was led by wealthy, NIMBY folks, so he set out to investigate. He analyzed a dataset of current and proposed data center projects alongside US census data1 and has graciously offered to share the results in an exclusive here. He came to at least three stark conclusions:

1. The poorest neighborhoods resisted data centers at nearly five times the rate of the wealthiest (19.0% vs. 3.8%)

2. Recently proposed data centers that faced pushback were canceled or suspended at more than five times the rate of data centers that didn’t (28.2% vs. 5.2%).

3. Cancellation rates are highest in lower-income areas, a fact fully explained by their higher rates of pushback.

Yeah it just had me thinking. Thank you.

Reading that China is quite advanced in AI also, and if these things are related, how are they handling things like data centers over there? Or are they not related?

I’m seeing a lot of it in the comments!

No one you just mentioned is providing any service to me whatsoever. That’s not a 1:1 example. Also, these places have removed traditional ways of doing business with them, in some locations. So, how do you get around that without limiting yourself or simply denying yourself? I’m speaking practically.

I’m not happy about the privacy issues. I’m just not sure I’d let them win over my other needs/wants.

Damage? Where’s the damage? I’m just not sure that giving up practical conviences for whatever this reads like to you and has you worried about is worth it. You’d use no apps ever. And you’d have to consistently be going with less as the technology moves on and you boycott it all. They are literally not staffing these places the way they used to.

I just prefer doing it myself, since many times I go at the same time and end up chatting with the self checkout lady. I just prefer to bag the stuff myself.
