I am not familiar with that, I’m guessing potato supreme is a username or something?
Not everyday i agree with ISPs but here we are. Guilty of and accused of are two very different things. Innocent until proven guilty.
Shocked I tell you. I am shocked.
I like a certain level of quality when it comes to audio.
When I’m making music, I use in ear monitors from shure with a flat response because it would throw off my mixes otherwise. Same with my presonus speakers. Flat response.
But for causally watching content, its fine for me to use some bookshelf speakers or even a bluetooth speaker. Its not super important for watching content for me as long as its not total trash.
Brother printers are your best bet. And maybe try sudo.
Great question that I dont have an answer for. Maybe one of the foundations that supports Linux development? This is just my hope though. No idea what it would really take to maintain Firefox at this point. Maybe if it was scaled down or something it’d be ok in the hands of just the open source community as a whole but I’m not well versed in programming or development so i dont know.
I gotta try and be optimistic about this kinda stuff because i forsee a future where Google just ruins more and more of the internet and i hate the thought of that.
While I do want competition in the web space, its a good thing that Google could get told to stop doing stuff like this.
I dont want Mozilla to die of course but companies need to be held responsible for all the shit they pull. I’d imagine if Mozilla wasnt able to maintain firefox anymore it would fall to the open source community like they said in the article and I’d probably still use it.
No one company should own the internet.
I think you’re definitely in the majority on lemmy with this take but i agree.
I have a “smart tv” that has never even seen WiFi because i prefer having control over my hardware. My media pc is all i need. I even got a little remote for an air mouse and keyboard combo that works just fine for me.
Its redhat, nyuk nyuk nyuk. https://www.redhat.com/en/technologies/linux-platforms/enterprise-linux
Or maybe Carmen is a Linux user idk i just work here man.
No company or entity should have the ability to sell my information. And at the very least not have access to it without my consent.
Especially if it influences how much I pay for insurance. Next thing you know, if you live near a McDonalds, your health insurance is gonna go up.
Yea you’re not wrong. Kinda fed up with most smartphone manufacturers these days. Its all so restrictive. And to your point that Google is one of the only manufacturers that allows the bootloader to be relocked, thats for now. No telling what will happen in the future which is another part of my issue.
At one point i was considering making a small pc out of a raspberry pi or something to replace my phone just cause i dont like the way phone manufacturing in general is going lol.
Kinda silly but i still think about it.
Thats pretty cool! My only gripe is I dont really wanna buy a pixel phone and I think there are unofficial roms for other android devices but idk if its worth the hassle.
I dont use Graphene OS but my understanding was that it allows the user to sandbox Google play apps: https://grapheneos.org/usage#sandboxed-google-play
So this gives Google play less access than it normally would. I think thats probably the biggest draw of it other than security updates for longer periods of time for older hardware i imagine.
Again, I’m not a user of it so i cant say for sure but I’ve beem interested in trying it out as it seems up my alley as I’m getting more pivacy conscious as the years go by.
Its $60 for a personal/small bussines use and a great daw. Would recommend. But whatever daw works best for you is great too :)
I’m a huge fan of reaper. Nice clean daw for a good price imo. It being cross platform was a bonus. I started making music on Windows and the best part of switching to Linux was that reaper just works after figuring out how the hell to install it lol. Some Linux stuff im ok at but im still figuring things out.
And same here. I’m a self pianist like my grandfather was. I really like addictive keys for playing piano and was happy to see the standalone version works with bottles. But without yabridge setup, i haven’t been able to make much recently.
Ive been looking to find a replacement for addictive keys thats native to Linux or works well at least.
As soon as they announced ads were gonna be in the start menu, i noped out of windows. I only use it for work which doesn’t bother me because im not doing anything private on my work pc.
I switched to Fedora 40 with KDE and never looked back. My only real gripe is with making music. Getting the VSTs to work and setting up yabridge is kind of a headache that i still need to do 😮💨 aside from that, Linux has been my daily driver for quite a while now and im happy i switched even though im still learning.
I wish they wouldn’t do that. If i have to hear about Southern New Hampshire University again I’m gonna hurt somebody.
If I agree to free thing and have to watch ads, aight fine.
But at least make them different man, i hate that they play the same one over and over again. It does not make me want to buy your product.
Shocked i tell you. I am shocked.
No way an app would collect data it doesnt need. Preposterous.
Next thing you’ll tell me is that tiktok is doing the same thing!
I agree with this. I’m using a 1070ti for image gen and it would be more than capable for handling some LLM stuff. An AMD 7700xt ive found dors well with 7B models on my main rig but im sure you could get away with somthing cheaper or less powerful.
That said, the amount of text you can genrate or the context length of its answers will depend the model you use and the larger the model, the more power it takes.
If youre just messing around with it or want it to review or answer small questions, I’d say a 1070ti like I’m using would be just fine. Some folks use even more budget friendly options. If you got a gaming machine with any semi recent GPU, I’d say go for it. Worst case, you can pay for a subscription later if you really want.
