Nobody is forcing you to use the cloud, you can host your apps on your infrastructure. Of course the cloud has its uses, but I think it is way overutilized and many companies could save quite a lot of money if they returned to on premises.

8·8 months agoWhy would he do that? He has the closest thing to absolute power that existed since the independance of the US, without even getting elected and he would loose everything : the non-Nazis won’t forget what he did, and the Nazis won’t accept him.

The only way to be sure of who you are talking to on the phone is to call back a known number.

13·1 year agoI have a VPS that uses 1GB of RAM, it has 6-7 apps running in docker containers which isn’t the most ram efficient method of running apps.
A light OS really helps, plus the most used app that uses a lot of RAM actually reduce their consumption if needed, but use more when memory is free, the web browser. On one computer I have chrome running with some hundreds of MB used, instead of the usual GBs because RAM is running out.
So it appears that memory is full, but you can actually have a bit more memory available that is “hidden”

Europe@feddit.de•Macron’s tactics against the far right failedEnglish
16·1 year agoTactics against the far right? What tactics? He has done absolutely nothing against the rise of the far right and helped it so many times.
Hell he has become more extremist every year himself.
What works against the far is known, we have already done it in the past : everything done by the CNR after the war. A social safety net. He has done nothing but destroying it, not only has he failed to fight the far right, he is actively enabling it.

11·1 year agoOn a more general note than the answer you already got, he is extremely authoritarian, absolutely never listen to the people same for his government, refuses to change his mind on anything and isn’t open to discussion on anything. Even with the state of emergency being declared on part of the territory, he didn’t give anything away to make it stop.
So he destroys the social net, and people’s beliefs in democracy : that’s the two things you have to do to raise far right anywhere.

414·2 years agoMedical use is absolutely revolutionary. From GP’s consultations to reading tests results, radios, AI is already better than humans and will be getting better and better.
Computers are exceptionally good at storing large amount of data, and with ML they are great at taking a lot of input and inferring a result from that. This is essentially diagnosing in a nutshell.

Europe@feddit.de•UK state pension age will soon need to rise to 71, say expertsEnglish
3·2 years agoIf what you said was true there wouldn’t be any companies outside of like the caymans islands. Taxation is not the only thing a company look at when choosing where to go. Sure obviously you can’t tax at 100%, but we are currently way lower than we used a few decades ago, so we totally can raise it (actually just go back to what it was even just 10 years ago).
As for the retirement age of 60, you say it is impossible yet it was the retirement age in France until like 15 years ago. Since then we dramatically reduced the taxation on companies and capital gains, and slightly increased the age of retirement. That is to say it is absolutely possible and does not demand big systemic changes, only some adjustments on a few variables.
Also the retirement age until 6 months ago was 62, and projections for the next decades showed the system would be making benefits for a few years, then deficit, then back to benefits later in the century, while keeping everything (tax level, retirement age) the same. The choice was to reduce taxes on companies and capital gains, and raise retirement age, which would end up costing more in like 30 years from now than if we kept the same age (not even talking about not reducing taxation on that point)
We are, as a society, extremely rich. It is just not well distributed thus people think we don’t have money for this or that.

Europe@feddit.de•UK state pension age will soon need to rise to 71, say expertsEnglish
6·2 years agoTaxing more means more revenue for the system, thus reaching equilibrium. It’s recurring income so it doesn’t move the problem into the futur.
What the government did however, that is moving the issue down the line, as it does reduce cost now, but in the future it will cost more than if they didn’t do anything. As usual, absolutely no foresight whatsoever, lies upon pile of lies.
We produce more than enough for everyone to be above poverty, to retire at 60, to have free Healthcare. However choices were made so instead of that we have a few super billionaires, people living in the street, etc etc
That guy is a) a relentless liar and b) absolutely insane Why would you say those things? Why contradict yourself at 20 days interval publicly?
