A lot of the issues you mentioned get solved in season 2. I think there was a network shift and the camera work got better. Later on Amazon pumped a lot of money into the show as well. It’s really worth the watch and I’d love to hear back from you if you do.
If you’re a gamer there’s a Telltale game that follows this account’s namesake. Camina Drummer.
The writers did a fantastic job writing all the dialogue in the books. I would argue it’s on par or even better than the show. Which is hard, considering the writers for the books produced and even wrote the screenplays for the show.
As someone who shares a line of work with Bobby Draper and many other characters, the military jargon and quips are also spot on. Never have I heard such accurate lingo and expression in sci-fi.

The Expanse may be the best bit of sci-fi I have ever had the joy to watch and read.

That they are. I just found them recently. They’re certainly out of my usual wheelhouse but I’ve really been enjoying a lot of old folk and country. This kinda bridges the gap perfectly.

You may really enjoy Bridge City Sinners then!
They do mostly Bluegrass/Folk but they have this metal vibe to a lot of their stuff. Their vocalist is fantastic and the song I linked feels like I’d be in the middle of a Cowboy Saloon barfight.
I get this a lot too… Sometimes it extends to placement of an object but more like; I adjusted this candle and it went too far counter clockwise so now I need to adjust it equally counter clockwise before moving to the right position or it would “feel” off.

The Christmas Dinner at the end of “Seven Fishes” Season 2 of The Bear. Cuts a little too much on the dotted line for me.

You stay, I go. No Following.

Here’s the thing… People who care still use Discord. I’m one of them. I have no other option for maintaining communications with a group of 20 people I have been gaming with since 2009. We’ve all hopped from Skype to Teamspeak to Ventrillo to Discord. There’s no going back for many of these people.
Like it or not, Discord offers a product that Signal, Briar, or any other Matrix chat offers and that’s accessibility. I would love for a mainstream E2EE chat program that actually can host a 15 person call, hold multiple chatrooms in one server, allow screen sharing, streaming and multimedia sharing.
We can’t just live in a vacuum and claim nobody uses these programs because they’re stupid or don’t care. For many, like me, Discord a reasonable security risk people are willing to take in order to maintain communications with people they care about.

Sunflower oil gang rise up!
Great cooking versatility, great flavour for fried foods, high smoke point, cheap as heck.

In a wonderful turn of events: Captive’s War is narrated by the cery same narrator!

I’m currently listening to Livesuit by James SA Corey. It’s part of their new series that released this year called The Captives War. It’s a Novella/Interquel pretty typical of their release style.
It takes place in an incredibly unknowably distant future for humanity. We follow a squad of Livesuit infantry who have fused their bodies with technology to fight an unfathomable legion of alien conquerors. An enemy that has never lost a war then uses the best traits of conquered races to continue their war.
Why it’s so good is because the author(s) have an incredible way of describing people and the world they interact with. Images are vivd and believable. While being so alien, and futuristic Corey manages to write a world you can imagine yourself in.
Additionally, their novellas always take place in the same world, but are completely stand alone stories from the main series so the depth of world building is just… chef’s kiss
Both writers were originally working on writing RPGs and TTRPGs so their style just brings me back to sitting at a table with friends, some drinks and a Character Sheet for a hopeful lvl 3 wizard.
Ahhh I see. Thank you!
I’m OOTL. What Linux thing are you talking about?
My job sees me putting a lot of really heavy objects on trailers, vehicles, boats and trains.
You must say “She ain’t going nowhere” and tap the load with your hand or else she is going somewhere you don’t want.
I swear by it. Every time I or one of my subordinates has forgotten the phrase its been a disaster. So we say it every time now and make sure the new guys do it to. Or else.
