Would it have to be registered as an ‘official 3rd party client’ (like is currently the case with Spotify’s API for example)?

    probably not. They are not forced to make it a “free for all” scenario. they can still setup certain rules or minimum requirements to maintain their desired service level. eg. E2E encryption.

    Probably not based on them not meeting the definition. It’s such a narrow definition that it’s hard to apply it to anyone but Apple.
