Linux has really never been a Windows alternative and it will never be. (At least for most people)
Sure it works great if you are into it but outside of that it isn’t geared for use by the general population. That’s not say that Linux isn’t fine for most people. The thing is most people are not fine with Linux in the sense that they aren’t seeking what it provides.
Then it will never be popular or a realistic alternative to windows like we all want it to be.
