Hi. I’m new, obviously, don’t know if this is wrong place but anyway. On joining, I was asked my likes, I assumed I would be recommended communities to follow. Instead I was auto-joined to what feels like hundreds of communities. It will take me ages to go to a community one at the time to unsubscribe. Any way to mass delete?

As an aside if devs are here, horrible design to autojoin people. Might be of course a feature of the server I joined but if the piefed software pushes for this, just horrible. At least should be a page showing all the communities you would join and ability to toggle them there or remove all.

That is something at least. Have to think about it, I do like some of these communities and re joining is also a hassle but it might be less trouble than clearing this mess of communities

Yeah, I’m not sure if there’s a better solution. Also not sure if those subscriptions are communities or if unsubscribing from feeds will help… I mean you can go two ways here, keep track of the ones you like, reset your account and re-add them. Or go with the mess and unsubscribe over time.

Maybe an idea for future development is to add another onboarding step which details the long list of community recommendations and the user can tick or remove checkboxes before they get added.

That is my recommendation for future development as well. I’m fine, I know this is the nature of open source systems, sometimes they are just scuffed on some parts. For new more casual users, there is a good chance the would turn around immediately when they see this mess.

Some time ago I made a new account, before deleting the old one, I opened the communities I wanted to stay in, in separate tabs, kept the tabs open while I deleted the account, made a new one and logged in. Then I just refreshed the tabs and went through them, clicking subscribe/join.

Its a bit of a faff, but probably the easiest option.

It will take me ages to go to a community one at the time to unsubscribe.

You can unsubscribe from individual communities directly from the community list at https://nord.pub/communities. Set the filter to subscribed. No need to go to each community one at a time.

yeah, realized this after I already clicked the unsubscribe all button… Well, no harm, after discovering the community list, joining the interesting subs was easy enough. Much more manageable now.

Someone correct me if I am mistaken, but I believe it is to do with this (at the bottom of the main settings page)

I believe these were both ticked when I started here, deselecting them is what appears to have stopped that weirdness.

This doesn’t answer your question but the way I’ve stated to do it is just browse all and only block the communities i don’t like seeing
