the industry term is called bouncing the track, final cut pro calls it compound clip
Option + G. most daws will have a “bounce to a new track” or “bounce in place” but the effect is as you described; all the effect and automations are recorded in stereo or mono and saved as a unified clip. you can specify if you want to record pre or post fader. choose pre fader if you want to avoid recording bus send FX.
