It’s less arch and more Manjaro by a cringe edge lord

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•In Halo the rings are named for the order they were built and then also for the order they fired in. Do the names change each time they fire?
5·2 个月前Originally the forerunners built 12 30,000km wide rings on the less secret greater ark. That ark and 11 rings are destroyed before the array fires. In the process of building those they learned they could make the rings 10,000km wide and they would only need 6 of them. Far more efficient and logistically much easier to move and build. These are the rings you interact with in the games and the smaller and more secretive ark is the one you see.
TL;DR the tech got smaller and more efficient over the millennia it took to build the first 12.

4·2 个月前I just pretend the series ended at 4. The Greg bear and Karen Traniss books are good too.

4·2 个月前All six of the smaller ones made by the lesser ark from halo 3 as well as one bigger older ones fire about 100000 years before the events of the games. The 19th halo, installation 08 that was being built to replace 04(that we blew up) also fires independently destroying its self(because incomplete) and is replaced by 09.
So one array fire and one incomplete solo fire both to wipe out flood infestations.
All the isolation breaks with a xen 0day. I love qubes but it has its weknesses.
I don’t consider IP tables as easy to fuck up as real code or SELinux policies but yes there’s lots of room for error. Not for the faint of heart.
If you want anonymity not just security you can do whonix on hardware or I2P on a seprate host with a minimal headless install. I’m thinking more along the lines of a machine that only does a single job like a chat app client, a server, a word processor, CAD, etc… IRC, simplex and others don’t even need X or wayland.
Hardware segregation › virtual. Im not really thinking general purpose either.
I more meant stripped down to just what you need for a given use case down to the library level. You only need to write software for LFS…
Would you believe gentoo, slack and LFS can be more secure than qubes in many use cases if you know what you’re doing? LFS you basically need to be a wizard but in theory it’s possible.
A brave new world and clockwork orange are in the same vein as well.
Hope? >!A nuke drops at the end and everyone dies!<
I got futility from the last page.

I resen… Shit he even has a DrPepper. I guess I need to wash my cloak.
I fully endorse gentoo and arch in prod
LoL specifically may be for the best. I don’t know anyone who got into that game in a healthy way or thought they enjoyed it in retrospect after switching to a new game.
CoD and CS with super powers sure but not League of Legendary Toxicity
And why is all the stuff from my desk in that box?

Do this. If you invest keep keep it diverse and liquid. Even German defense stocks are worth dirt in a world on fire. Like come on guys, we all knew infinite growth markets were a fairy tale.
