2·8 days agoMy original plan was to set it up so that I could connect/disconnect them by flipping a switch under the screen but after doing some research that seems to be very difficult. I would need to design a very compact PCB and I don’t know if there would be enough space for it. Things are pretty tight around the computer and modem. The situation has escalated so I just need to unplug them for now.

161·9 days agoYeah… Been thinking about this for a while, I think we’re on the same page. Just started getting into self hosting, so far I have a NAS running Jellyfin. I bought a used Tesla model 3 just before Elon started donating to the GOP and I’m going to disconnect the WiFi and 5G antennas this weekend. Already running grapheneOS. Sadly there is Windows-only software I need occasionally for work but I’m going to go full-linux on all but one of my devices.

Fair, but part of the appeal is that I’m limited to work/school related apps only.
I got a Remarkable Paper Pro for school and it’s great. If I were just looking for a reader I’d probably go for something else but if you need to write, draw diagrams, annotate PDFs etc. then it’s really nice. The color screen is pretty cool. My only complaint is that I wish there was a button to refresh the screen.
Meh, the hassle of blocking the Bambu stuff is worth the print quality, reliability, and multicolor printing capabilities. I tried the Prusa MMU2S and ended up giving up. I had less than a 5% success rate with multicolor prints.
Edit: my phone keeps auto correcting Bambu to Bambi

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Ignoring the internet bill itself, how many paid online services do you have?
2·16 days agoVPN, Qobuz, Tutamail
I had a Prusa for several years before switching to Bambu. Can’t go wrong with either brand imo. Although I have blocked my Bambus and their slicer from communicating with the outside world.
Spent a couple hours over the last few days trying to get Bambu Studio to work on Ubuntu 24 and haven’t figured it out yet. A couple hours does not include the additional hours required to build it.

2·17 days agoI bought my desktop at an auction for a self-driving car startup that was shutting down. Amazing specs, great price. It had two RTX 2080 Ti cards in there. Loudest GPU fan I’ve ever heard in my life. All the other fans in the computer are Noctua but I guess the Ti cards are strictly optimized for performance and not necessarily gaming. I got some nice speakers that are color-coordinated with the desktop but when I’m doing some serious gaming I have to use noise-cancelling headphones to tune out the sound of the GPU fan. Might get a different GPU at some point but it’s out of my fun budget right now.
