Would have to do some swimming, the waters close to the coast are still under US law. You need to get 12 nautical miles to get to international waters and away from this lunacy.

I’m curious, could you skip a a DE and window manager and still run full screen graphical applications like games? Run it really like the DOS days when you just changed to the correct directory and ran the executable and then doom launches…?
No, but we can make an ai that eats the food instead.
So it’s taking some of the air out of the stream, slowing it down, and putting it back in the stream… How does this not affect the performance?
Yea… Exactly… Thanks for providing evidence for me.
People going out and downloading random crap from shady websites clogging up their windows install with malware are not going to spend any amount of time troubleshooting why the random crap they downloaded doesn’t do anything when they double-click it. They likely won’t even know what to search for to find the solution to their “problem”.
They’d find it rather difficult to just download programs from random websites and run them, considering the file will not be marked executable by default and they can’t just “download and double-click”.
Possible they passed away suddenly and a tech-illiterate family member threw them out while cleaning out their place. Not great there was no encryption but people often overlook making plans for their eventual death, we mostly just don’t like to think about it.
its usage cannot be denied or restricted
lol wat? I don’t know of a single local establishment that accepts Monero (or any other crypto) as payment (not saying it doesn’t exist, but it if so they are exceedingly rare). Seems pretty restricted to me. They also don’t seem to accept caps, eddies, gold, or spetims oddly enough.
The problem is that crypto is not untraceable like it’s fans want to push. There have been multiple instances of it being tracked back and traced, by private individuals and law enforcement. It’s just debit card processing with extra steps and massive drain on resources.
I’m just pointing out the perceived contradictions in the ‘requirements’, and explaining why you were likely getting “the Linux recommendation” you complained about in your edit.
Also, this isn’t an ‘RFP’ - you aren’t offering to pay anyone anything to do your dirty work. You asked for advice and appear to get mad when some of the advice you receive is not to your liking. Don’t act entitled, it’s literally free help/advice in a public forum. Even if someone’s suggestions don’t help you, they might help the next person with a similar situation/concern that comes looking for advice.
I’m not providing day to day tech support
This is the problem. Debloating Windows is a tug of war with Microsoft. Many here have pointed out you’d need to likely re-run the scripts after Windows Updates. After getting over the initial hump, you are likely going to be needed less day by day going the Linux route (or give up on them actually using a debloated and tracker free Windows).
Either:
Your parents are sharper than you are giving them credit, and they’d likely pick it up pretty quick.
They really are as unsavvy as you say and should not be downloading and installing whatever software they think they need on Windows, and would likely be safer on any Linux distro with a gui package manager.
I might should clarify that when using “dir” verbally no one knows what I’m saying, but maybe how I pronounce it in my head isn’t how everyone else does, lol. In text it’s plenty clear, imo.
Frankly, the way MS has been heading for the last decade, you either get OK with their official bloat and trackers or you switch to Linux. Anything else is just lying to yourself. That’s why you are getting those recommendations.
I’m also suspect of legacy software (not proprietary, but legacy) being supported in Windows 11 that wine can’t handle. The only stuff I’ve ran into that won’t run is DRM laden trash, and if that’s the case I wouldn’t classify it as ‘legacy’ if their call home servers are still running and supported.
Yup. Imo made the entire ui so much worse all in an effort to blur the line between macos and Windows.
Windows 10 already required 3rd party software for me to use it. Windows 11 was a complete no-go for me from the moment I saw it. I’m so glad my OS drive died last year, it was the push I needed to go Linux only.
My guess is it’s just a car with a battery 5 times bigger than their comparison vehicle, can’t do over 30, go up a hill, or pass any safety standards.
Or it’s fictional.
meh. folder is 2 syllables, directory is like 4. I’m lazy. If someone gave me a clear one syllable alternative that others would know what I meant (even if while cringing), i’d probably start using that instead. I’ve tried just “dir”, but no one ever knows wtf i’m saying.
There is a launch argument you can add in steam, ‘–skip-launcher’ for bg3. You won’t be able to change between the dx or vulkan clients though without the launcher, if that matters to you (probably not, but figured I’d mention it). I’d guess there is a similar option for Cyberpunk 2077, but haven’t done it personally.
polypterodaclib
Fucking hell, I nearly spat out my coffee at that one word. Bravo.
I had the same idea as a kid, I think around the time “true crime: streets of LA” came out. I wanted GTA: Your City, where it like connects to Google earth type of shit and recreates any city you want. That’d be so fun.
They’ll probably come to the “logical conclusion” that storing the data locally on the machine poses “too much risk” and just move the storage to their servers “for your safety”…
