What went wrong with Far Cry 6? I’ve heard it’s pretty mid and I haven’t heard much about it since which leads me to assume it’s not even memorably bad or good

I was holding out hope until recently that things would be improved with updates kind of like No Man’s Sky or through DLC like what Phantom Liberty did for Cyberpunk 2077.

I haven’t read a lot of reviews because I like going into games blind but from what I’ve heard a lot of the issues really seem baked into the core of the game.

If you count widespread 90s jokes as memes the lady who got burnt by McDonalds coffee was seriously injured and and a dingo really did eat that woman’s baby.

Both are jokes in Seinfeld, S7 E2 and S10 E10 respectively. I feel like there’s a couple other examples of event-specific jokes not aging well in hindsight but I can’t remember them.

Maybe the blog that is hosted on a Nintendo Wii. It’s not the most practical hack but I find console modding really neat and the “because I can” style projects are particularly fascinating to me.

Some other favorite hacks are a bit more practical and have to do with extending the life of existing products. RebbleOS, for example, is an open source firmware that took off after Pebble shutdown following their acquisition by FitBit in 2016. It’s allowed people to continue using their e-ink Pebble watches largely unchanged. They can still do things like fetch the weather and voice dictation.

On a related note for anyone interested there are a lot of programs out there for using other peripherals such as webcams, Xbox 360 Kinects, PSVR cameras and headsets, and so on for VR on PC.

iVRy Driver and Driver4VR are some pretty popular paid programs on Steam that assist with the setup process.

It depends if I feel the death is deserved and if I’m having fun.

If I’m playing something like Battlefield and keep dying because of someone’s skills with a plane I’m fine with that and it definitely feels like it’s on me. If it’s someone sliding around shipment in Call of Duty mobile killing me as soon as I spawn and I’m lucky if I end their kill streak I feel like that’s on the game because of baked in mechanics being frustrating to counter.

I would say it’s definitely the most noticeable with games like Elden Ring. I suck so bad at them but I feel like I deserve each death and don’t feel irritated by dying.

It’s only in situations where someone is hacking that I would actually blame another player.

Is that correct? I think by definition an initialism can be considered a form of acronym. The way I worded the question includes those subsets of acronyms

Another one that came to mind is TF2. I like Titanfall 2 more than Team Fortress 2 but I associate the acronym with Team Fortress 2.

I wish there was an option to turn off link-only posts. At least have something in the body of the post. Maybe a quote or a TLDR. Otherwise it just feels like a bot posting.

I am not a fan. I don’t like link dumps. It doesn’t create a discussion and the article or whatever is being relayed might be total shit and there could be better or more direct sources.

If I saw a Hackaday article about a neat project on GitHub I wouldn’t just post the article with the original title. I would probably link the GitHub page and in the body of the post link the article with a quote and maybe post similar projects in case people are interested.

I specifically dislike the bots that repost content from Reddit. The communities they post to feel fake and end up receiving so many posts actual Lemmy users posting to them get washed away in the flood.

It’s not a big deal for some communities (ex. Nature photos) but doesn’t make sense for discussion focused ones.

OP is expecting the deletion of posts and comments to federate in the same ways posting them would. I don’t think they’re necessarily going scorched earth and care about someone quoting their comment in a reply or resharing a photo.

I think that’s a bit grandiose of a stance. If I misread what someone said or realized someone already said what I did I don’t think deleting it leads to any kind of growth.

That’s setting aside how draining it can be to reply to several people who are making the same argument about how you are wrong. If I couldn’t delete what I posted at that point I would just be creating a slew of edits to justify myself like people regularly do on Reddit whenever they get downvoted.

But that’s not what is being talked about. I don’t think OP is expecting an all or nothing situation. You’re talking like you’ve never deleted anything online

Most people aren’t going to put in the effort. If OP’s account deletion spreads across most of Lemmy, even just the larger instances, most people aren’t going to see their older posts.

That seems to be what OP is after. More in line with hiding poorly written Doctor Who fan fiction than hiding from the government in the woods.

Don’t you think that’s shifting the goalpost a bit? OP isn’t talking about something being archived they’re talking about a piece of content on social media still directly linking to that username.

Deleting things in as many places as possible making it harder to access is still a net positive.

It’s about as much of a part or mechanic of Lemmy as posting is.

I think it’s going to get more and more challenging due to how many games are focused on online play. If co-op or multiplayer servers are shutdown a lot of the time it comes down to fans to recreate them.

I’d highly recommend checking out this PCGamingWiki page about GameSpy server replacements if you are into that kind of thing.

Even with these mods you still run into the issue of needing either players or bots and whether or not to archive all game altering updates.
